This Year's Model Updates:

Finally replacing the boxy Cherokee that has been in production since 1984, the handsome all-new 2002 Jeep Liberty serves as the affordable SUV in Jeep's lineup. Borrowing styling cues from the 1997 Jeep Dakar and 1998 Jeepster concept vehicles, the Liberty is available in two trim levels with your choice of two- or four-wheel drive, a four- or six-cylinder engine and a manual or automatic transmission.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "car-like" as most of its competitors.

  • I LOVE MY JEEP !!!! - 2002 Jeep Liberty
    By -

My husband bought my Jeep for me on my 35 birthday. Fully loaded. And I love everything about it. I drive from the Country into Town everyday. 60 miles round trip and it a great ride. People ask me why didnt I get a car. My response I dont like sitting on the ground. My kids and their friends think I have the coolest SUV in the neighborhood. Since it is red, we put the Red Hawaiian print seat covers. Looks like a real beach Suv.When I bought my jeep I had the only one in my town now they are everywhere.

  • I LIKED IT SO MUCH I BOUGHT TWO - 2002 Jeep Liberty

I test drove most if not all SUV’s under the $30,000.00 range and found the Jeep Liberty to be the best. I purchased a 2003 Liberty Sport in November of 2002 and had my wife pick up it up while I was out of town on a hunting trip. I called her from my tree stand and asked her how she liked her new SUV she exclaimed, “I love it, and you should buy yourself one”. Well in January of 2003 I did just that. Given my purchases, all of my winter concerns disappeared. I will be keeping both our Jeeps for quite some time. Remember, a Jeep by name is still a JEEP, any other SUV by name is just an SUV. • First Jeep - 2002 Jeep Liberty

I really like my Jeep Liberty its my first SUV and first jeep and it rides very smoothly and handles well. My previous car was a honda del sol and I was nervous about the size and parking with the liberty but come to find out its shorter in length then my wifes toyota camry and it rides better to me then her camry but definitely better than my del sol.

  • The Jeep Tradition lives on. - 2002 Jeep Liberty

I have driven My Liberty for about 4 months and 5000 miles. I love it.No problems what so ever. For an SUV it has a nice ride especially on the Highway. Even on bumpy roads it is not bad. Plenty of room. It performs well. Excellent in snow and ice. Gas mileage is not great but that goes with the territory. The Jeep Tradition lives on.

  • Satified customer - 2002 Jeep Liberty

My Liberty has been a terrific car. No problems in first 15,000 miles. I have it serviced every 4,000 miles, including tire rotation. My dealer is a five-star dealer and has been most interested in how the customer feels about service.

  • Liberty is a great upgrade vs Cherokee - 2002 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I traded my 00 Cherokee Sport in for a 02 Liberty Limited Edition. It is much more comfortable all around and the rear seat 60/40 fold down function is great. There is less room behind the back seat, but the spare tire on the tailgate frees up some of the lost space. The Liberty is a little bit slower off the line that the Cherokee, but the engine is smooth and adequately powerful, not to mention much quieter. The on-road ride of the Liberty is great and the interior fit- and-finish is better than anything in its class. The range of the Liberty is less than the Cherokee as the tank is smaller (18.5 gal vs 20 gal) and the mileage seems a bit poorer.

Right off of the sales lot the head lights low beams were not working. Its been back at the service dept for 2 days now and waiting for a new "Body Control Module" computer. The dealer gave us a "loaner" Liberty to drive till we get our car back. Other than that it seems to be a great car and very fun to drive.

  • Best Midsize 4wd - 2002 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Just picked up my Bright silver Jeep Liberty Sport(cherokee in Australia) 2 weeks ago. I absolutely love it! Power, comfort and great 4x4 setup. Destroys ravs, crv, tribute, escape by a mile. If youre looking for a Mid size 4wd that can take the punishement, tow a 1500kg boat like a piece of cake and handle youre day to day duties with ease then look no further.

  • Better than I expected - 2002 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I previously owned a CJ7 and it was probably the most unreliable vehicle Ive ever come in contact with. That was then, this is now, and what a difference! I looked at the Toyota RAV4 but it is underpowered. Daimler/Chrysler has really taken Jeep quality to the next level. Id highly recommend this vehicle for anyone thinking of a small to mid-size SUV. It truely is the only one in its class that you can take off road!
