This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2003 Jeep Liberty, a new overhead console, based on that of the Grand Cherokee, includes a unique interface that allows passengers to program the operation of nine convenience and safety items to their own preference. Liberty owners can now personalize several features, including which doors unlock with the first press of the remote keyless entry unlock button, the miles driven between service intervals and the amount of time the headlamps remain on when exiting the vehicle. Finally, an available six-disc in-dash CD player replaces the cargo area mounted unit. Standard four-wheel disc brakes endow the Jeep with improved brake feel on-road, decreased stopping distances and reduced brake fade. Available electrochromic interior and driver-side rearview mirrors help reduce headlight glare from traffic at night, and standard sliding sun visors have been added, which serve to keep the sun out of your eyes by providing added windshield and side glass coverage.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" as most of its competitors.

  • Jeep owner for life - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I love my Jeep. I had a Cherokee and loved it too and when it came time to retire her, I needed another. Sadly, she went extinct and was replaced with the Liberty. I dont love the curved styling and wish they would have stuck with the "Traditional Jeep" style but its still a Jeep and it acts like one. Back seat not so comfy. Fun to drive. Great storage. Gas mileage sucks- about 15 mpg. No problems with reliability. Only maintenance performed so far- I dont expect anything major till about 100k. I would definitely buy another IF gas werent such an issue. I am going to possibly trade her in, but it will be for her gas friendly sibling the Patriot. Its a Jeep thing and we know it!

  • gotta love it - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Bought 03 jeep liberty beginning of june. Cant help but love it. The V6 has a nice throaty muscular roar. Gas mileage is low but compared to the other SUVs and trucks out there youd have to drive a Focus to get great gas mileage! My wife and I love the styling much more distinct that others (especially the plain vanilla Ford Escape. Interior on the limited rocks! Also dont let that "bouncy ride" entries sway you, its very comfortable (We drove a Jeep Wrangler for 14 years)

I have owned my Jeep for over a year and I absolutely love it! I use it to commute to college and it gets me there no matter what the weather is! I would highly recommend a Liberty to anyone. It is really manuverable. I feel very safe in my Jeep. I also love how you are up high and have a good view of the road. This vehicle is a blast to drive!

  • One Fun Jeep - 2003 Jeep Liberty

My Liberty Limited has been a great vehicle. It handles great and looks even better - Im always getting comments on it. It ride does get a little stiff on longer trips, but the interior is nice and the 6 way power, leather seats let you adjust to you hearts content. The gas mileage has gotten a bit better now that Ive gotten my vehicle broken in, but dont expect more than about 21 mpg on the highway or about 17 mpg in town. Ive taken my Liberty in for service every 3,000 miles as suggested, and I havent had a single problem mechanical wise. I havent had any problems - it is just so much fun to drive!

  • Leaks water, Lemon-Beware! - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Renegade has water leak discovered with approx.300miles, to many unsuccessful attempts by Chryslers five star dealerships to fix leak. Service depts. quality lacking, anything from "we couldnt find a leak" and they left the carpets soggy to Scratched paint and interior parts damaged (by different service depts.)Chrysler factory reps. unresponsive, Chrysler unresponsive they just take your money and run. Chrysler Finacial is no help just dont miss your payment on your lemon, I wouldnt buy a Liberty or Chrysler.

  • Nice SUV for good price - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Nice look love to drive rides smooth and has a nice 3.7L V-6 under the hood for the price better then other small SUV out there.

  • Nothing but problems - 2003 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Bought our Liberty new in 2003. After 2006, it has been nothing but maintenance problems. Issues with windows, door locks, blower motor, A/C compressor, Drive shaft. I could go on! This is only city and highway driving. I simply laugh when I see the TV commercials with a Jeep Liberty off road. Good luck with that! Cant wait to get rid of it.

  • Durability - 2003 Jeep Liberty

We have had our Jeep for almost two years. It already has 106,000 miles on it. My mother bought one a month before I bought mine and her reading is 13,000. As you can tell we drive a lot. We have really enjoyed this vehicle. After it hit 100,000 we were worried. A slight A/C problem and thats about all. Every morning its starts with no problem. We are expecting a new baby and have to look for a vehicle with a 3rd row; it actually makes me said that we cant get this model with a 3rd row.
