This Year's Model Updates:

Although the exterior styling may look familiar, Jaguar's historic sales leader, the XJ, has been completely redesigned for 2004.

Pros:
  • Supple ride quality, powerful V8 engines, roomier interior.
Cons:
  • Fussy interior controls, clumsy transmission shifter, CD changer is still in the trunk.

  • In A Class Of Its Own - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

Best car I have owned !! Mercedes-s seris and BMW-7 seris cannot compare. Smooth and elegant and a great car to drive. Corners like no other car I have owned

This is my second Jaguar, having owned a 2000 Vanden Plas, before this one. If they hadnt changed the body style I would still be driving that one. But Im glad they did, the acceleration on this one is great and the gas mileage is over 28 on the highway. Love the new nav system, much better than the old one.

  • Drives Nicely, but a piece of junk!! - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

The XJR drives nicely and is very quick. However, it is a poorly built hunk of junk. My car spends almost as much time at the dealership as it does in my garage. The quality is very poor, and it is unreliable.

This is my third Jag, I started with a 89 XJ6, a 99 XJR and now the 04 XJR. I have always been pleased with Jags and have never had any problems in the past. The 04 is beyond superb from its power to its class and comfort. At high speeds it just glides, what a pick up in acceleration. The technology that comprises this car is just amazing, it has a leveling suspension, drives itself with the cruise, heated steering wheel etc.. I ordered mine with every option possible, wow, I feel spoiled. Ive had everything from Rolls, BMW, Mercedez, Audi, Lotus, Cadillac etc.. this is by far the best. Thanks Jag for a fabulous car.

  • Not worth the money - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

This particular XJ8 is the XJR version, so performance is amazing and fun. However, the interior is dismal. The buttons fall off the airvents, the driver-seat is worse than a wooden bench, and the ignition is placed in a way that we tend to accidentally brush the key with our knee and shut the car off. Trunk space is small for a model like this. Headroom is minimal. Backseat is cramped for a car this size. I am not impressed.

  • The best Jag for me - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

This is my fifth Jaguar since 1994 and let me tell you that Jaguar has done a very good imporvement since then. The new Vanden Plas is very elegant and it says british carm all the way. It is very powerful and very roomy for me. The exterior looks alot like the old model but still is very beautiful and the interior is very clean and is laid out well.

  • THIS CAR ROCKS! - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

I feel the overall review of this car is excellent! It is a classy looking car but yet portrays the characteristics of a sports car. I feel the build quality is far superior to any American brand luxury car. Although the car is 7-10 thousand dollars cheaper than comparable sedans from Mercedes & BMW, I feel it still gives the customer a bang for his or her buck! I feel this car has a nicer interior compared to the German cars. Jaguar I feel has landed right on the spot when they introdused this car last year (2003).

  • CANT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS SO FAR - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series
    By -

HAD 1999 JAGUAR XJ8 THOUGHT WAS GOOD CAR BUT GAVE ME PROBLEMS TOWARDS END. TRIED XK8 FOR ABOUT A WEEK BUT WAS HARD TO GET IN AND OUT OF SO DESPITE MY LOVE OF ITS APPEARANCE I TRADED 2005 FOR 2004 VAN DEM PLAS. IT RIDES AND FEELS SO MUCH BETTER THAN MY OLD XJ8 AND THEXK8. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A BETTER RIDING CAR BUT I HAD NO IDEA IT WOULD BE AS RESPONSIVE ON THE ROAD AS IT IS OR AS COMFORTABLE. HOPE I DONT GET MECHANICAL PROB. BUT SO FAR COULDNT BE HAPPIER

  • The best Jag ever - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

I bought my XJ8 with 87,000 miles on it. I now have 97,000 miles and this car feels and drives like new. Responsive, feels tight and it is very quiet. It is a wonderful car to drive in the open road, because of its power and great gas mileage. You will easily get 29 mpg on this powerful v8 car! The interior is simple, yet very elegant.

  • No Less than brilliant! - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

XJR is very low key and understated and yet..WOW..faster than my Porsche 911 which I traded it in for!!The acceleration is awsome and combined with the road handling and braking make this a one of the fastest cars of its kind on the road. It is easy and fun, fast and safe, quiet and yet has a performance that few people get to experience. Jag need to promote it a little more!
