This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar introduced its youth-oriented X-Type last year, so 2003 holds little changes for the baby Jag. There's a slight reduction in the price of the base model, and electrochromic mirrors are standard on all trim levels. Cars equipped with the 3.0-liter mill now get 17-inch wheels and a CD player as standard equipment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable base pricing, sporty handling, all-wheel drive, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

No problems; no regrets. I recommend a 3.0 over the 2.5.

Ive owned my Jag a little over a year now, its power and handling is impressive. This Jag is as beautiful inside as it is on the outside. The 3.0 handles my heavy foot. At first I did not like the AWD till driving through a heavy snow and I was then glad to have it. People who see it look then look again, and I cant help but smile and say "yes its a Jag".

  • Great car-as long as its under warranty - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Purchased my 03 X-Type 3.0 as a Select Edition certified car. It is truly a wonderful vehicle despite its poor reputation. The drive is very smooth, the engine quiet and refined. The leather and wood wraps you in luxury that feels much more expensive than what the car actually costs. Prepare to get to know your service advisor if you purchase one of these cars, however. In the 5 months that Ive had mine, its been in the shop for about a month. No major problems have been encountered, just replacing parts that had rattles, whines, vibrations, etc. As long as its under warranty, I want as smooth a ride as I can get

After falling in love with this car at the auto show back in February I spent all year convincing myself I needed to buy one. With a 191,000 miles on my 10 yr old Park Ave, I figured its only a matter of time before it died. Taking advantage of year end close out sales I found myself a 2.5 sport package in British Racing Green. What a beautiful car! I bought the car thinking I would still drive the Buick until its death. I now have almost 6,000 miles on the Jag and spend no time in the Buick.

I just bought a "certifed" Jaguar 2 months ago. The car is fun to drive, responsive and very comfortable. It came very well equipped. If your looking for an X type--buy used. The depreciation is very high on a new X type which is why I went used.

I bought my 2.5L automatic in June of 2010. When I first got the car there were some "gremlins" especially electrical that came and gone. In September the battery went. I was able to put a charge to it and when and got a OEM battery. Wow all the gremlins were gone. When I bought it it had 23046 miles and now June 2011 I turned 26000 miles. Except for the electrical gremlins I have no problems with the car until about a month ago. I have the optional HID self leveling headlights, no washers on the lights. The interior mechanism broke in both headlights, and they could no longer be adjusted. One pointed to space the other to the ground. Jaguar does not make replacement parts for these lights,.

  • Misconceptions - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I bought the Jaguar X-Type 2003 used and I do not regret it one bit. When considering to buy this car, everyone doubted it, saying its only nice on the exterior. I was told the reliability was terrible, no dealerships in the area, and that it was not worth the headache because the parts are expensive. I have not had to bring the car in to the dealership ONCE, only for an oil change. Overall this car is a fantastic buy, great price, GREAT reliability, and tons of fun. I have this car at college, and it gets looks of admiration and impression. Another great feature of this car is it all wheel drive, which is unusual for an SUV. I am very grateful for buying it.

If you buy this model in the 2.5 liter engine, you can keep the price at around $33K with ABS/dynamic stability, heated seats, &c. You wont be able to accelerate fast enough to burn rubber from a dead stop, but jeez - grow up a little. If you can afford the car, you probably are old enough to have a family, and the trunk size is very good. The 2.5 gets up to highway speed very easily (5 speed automatic) and it corners really well, with a quiet solid feel under all conditions, especially on bumpy roads. Also, the all-wheel drive gives you the option of the dynamic stability pkg, which is a must.

  • Awsome car regardless of price - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

This is my second Jag. I had an S-Type for last 4 years and was extremeley happy with it. The reliability was great and got lots of looks! I had to go to an All-Wheel drive due to all the snow in colorado. I had test driven the X-type in the snow a few times and did great. I cant wait for S-type to come up with an all-wheel drive.

  • With jags like this we all should get 1! - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Buying the jag was the easiest buying experience ever for a car: no stress, no sales pushes, no trouble. Dealer bent backward for me. Others claim the 2.5 doesnt have enough power - it has plenty of power for most people. I love seeing the jaguar statue riding atop the hood in front. Fittings and finish are clean and flush. Gives an appearance of a more expensive jaguar. Although this is a 2003 it has a bunch of stuff not shown on 2003s. Even have cup holders front and rear. Drive is smooth and the seats so comfortable it could be an easy chair. Acceleration is smooth.
