This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar introduced its youth-oriented X-Type last year, so 2003 holds little changes for the baby Jag. There's a slight reduction in the price of the base model, and electrochromic mirrors are standard on all trim levels. Cars equipped with the 3.0-liter mill now get 17-inch wheels and a CD player as standard equipment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable base pricing, sporty handling, all-wheel drive, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

  • 2 years and still enjoying my X - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Purchased a certified used 5 spd/2.5L X-Type in 3/05 (had 12k miles). 2 years and 18k miles later, the only issues have been a popping air vent (fixed under warranty) and a drivers door handle that intermittently sticks. Handles like a dream (the AWD is amazing), but could use just a bit more punch in 1st gear. Acceleration from 20 mph on is just fine. Quiet ride and gets compliments everywhere I go. Very satisfied with performance, reliability, and gas mileage (24 mpg with 50/50 highway and local driving, and I tend to punch it a lot). Looking to upgrade to either a 3.0 X-Type Sport or used XK8 next year.

  • No other premium offers this much for $ - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Ive considered a Saab 9-3 and an Audi A4 when deciding. Theyre both great cars, but the Jaguar X-Type offered more options, more character, more driving enjoyment, more emotional involvement than any other at the price. Every trip in this car is a special occasion. Reliability and quality has been far above my expectations so far.

  • Fun to drive, expect build problems - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I own a manual 2.5 w/Sport package and Xenon lights. Have ~2500 miles on it in first 6 weeks of driving. A fun car to drive with great handling, but it has several small gremlins in build quality: mine have been loose seat, intermittent fuel gauge, and a whistling sunroof. More frustrating, the dealer hasnt returned my voicemail requesting service in 3 weeks now. Fun car, but expect to have it serviced under warranty. The OEM ContiTour tires are cheap and noisy. I replaced mine w/Eagle F1 GS- D3ès and road noise went down significantly.

I have had the car for two weeks and already put in &1,860.00. The dealer did a lousy job preping the car. I do love the look of the car I hope this is just a series of problems now solved. We will see

This was my first luxury car - moving from a Camry, this car swept me off my feet. I call this my little cat. Fun to drive, very stable and very comfortable. My car has sport mode and it accelerates like a cheetah - or shall I say a Jaguar. :). I am very satisfied with the ride, except for its reliability.

Outstanding ride with firm and deliberate control at all times. Holds up well (too bad I found out) in a crash at 35 mph. Comfortable front seating, fun to drive. 2.5 engine peppy, but somewhat under powered. Good gas mileage. Outstanding comfort and stability even over large bumps or train tracks.

  • Pleasantly surprised - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I recently took delivery of this vehicle, and I am content with it. I was looking for a 4wd sedan for less than 30K and this one came on top for the type and options included. The vehicle did come with a lot of options, but with some patience and a great sales individual I managed to get a great deal for it. The ride is whats expected of a European sedan. The steering is precise and the transmission is smooth. Because it is a 2.5 the acceleration is not that strong, but sufficient enough to provide a joyful ride. The finish inside is good, and the chrome accentuates the car perfectly.

  • New Cat in the Family - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

I have found the X-Type a joy to drive, being surprised with its acceleration and handling. After switching between my Vette and the Jag., the usually reorientation between vehicles has narrowed considerably. Wisconsin winters no longer are the challenge they were in the past. Styling is a plus. Its is super ego boost to have the number of people who stop to look her over at the malls, stations, etc. Very pleased with the purchase of my little cat.

  • Great car! - 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Car handles like a charm. I have the 2.5 and its all I need. Snow is no problem with the AWD. Love the way it hugs the road. I would prefer a little more head room, but Im very happy with it overall.
