This Year's Model Updates:

The S-Type gets minor styling revisions in the form of smaller taillights, a tighter-looking deck lid and a restyled front fascia. New exterior panels have tighter fits, while the hood is now made of aluminum. Interior upgrades include new Bronze Madrona trim, a revised instrument panel and an optional aluminum trim package. Eight-cylinder models get a new VDP package that adds premium heated leather seats, burled walnut trim and unique 17-inch alloy wheels.

Pros:
  • Elegantly appointed interiors, solid all-around performance, classic British styling, full load of standard safety equipment.
Cons:
  • A few cheap interior bits, high price, fussy J-gate shifter.

  • Love the R - 2005 Jaguar S-Type

Beautiful car. Has the perfect balance of power, handling and ride -- where others in this class miss the mark, or overcorrect. The back end, down by the exhaust is a negative design move. I actually feel the first 2 years of this model (03-04) is a more aggressive look (despite what many of the published reviews say). I miss the built-in fog lights upfront, and the wheels look less sporty than before.

clean lines with guts under the hood. moves right along with a little road noise.

  • Classy and Fun - 2005 Jaguar S-Type

This is my second Jag S-type. I first bought a pre-owned 200 model. This time, I bought a new one, with the VDP trim package on it. It has a ton of power and pick-up, not to mention the smooth ride you expect from a Jaguar and a rear-wheel drive automobile. The dealership is very attentive to my requests.

Outstanding combination of handling and power, with good fuel economy for an 8 cylinder car. I am averaging just under 22 mpg combined.

  • Jag lives up to Powers high reatings - 2005 Jaguar S-Type

I am pleased with this Euro luxury sedan. I think the recent high Powers ratings are fully justified on the basis of fit and finish and quality. I like this car much better than the last BMW 530. It is smoother and I believe the 6 speed transmission is incredible. I planned to get a v8 but after driving the v6 I decided that the slight performance difference was just not worth $7k more. The dealer then admitted that they dont really push the v8 as the 3.0 does very well. At 80 this car is virtually silent on the road. Great handling that reflects the German heritage and the German test facility. I am pleased with this car and I believe I got a great deal from a great dealer.

  • An Audi Alternative - 2005 Jaguar S-Type

I am a Audi A6 fan but didnt want a third car of the same. The S-Type has been a great alternative. Performance on snow and ice, and the radio is better with the Audi but comfort, style, and how you feel looking over the hood is clearly better with Jag. I sense that people are looking at me when I pull up in this car. Specifically, on comfort, the A6 causes a twinge of back pain after 300 miles but not the Jag. Seats are clearly more comfortable. Jag has a winner here and I am very pleased with this car.

  • A fierce machine with civilized exterior - 2005 Jaguar S-Type

I have been driving S Type R. for about a year. The power from its 398 horse engine is ferocious and quick. You have to remind yourself to lighten the gas to avoid speeding. Its price is competitive in the range of performance sedans without sacrificing any amenities and style. Sleek design with 18" wheels and performance tires. The jewel of the crown is the grill, its like the chain mail of medieval knight, thus giving a hint of old British trait of lineage and class. I like it more than the BMW 5 Series.

  • Movin on Up..... - 2005 Jaguar S-Type

First imported luxury sedan. Captured by the looks and heritage. Held by the performance and pure enjoyment of the drive. Wife looks good and feels good in this vehicle. The 4.2L has enough power to make this car go. Braking and handling match the power plant. She gets what she wants and I get to have some fun too! Black exterior with charcoal gray interior look exceptional when shined up. Absolutely no regrets. Like a thoroughbred that wants to run all the time. I always feel like I have to hold her back. The car I mean.

  • The experience is worth it. - 2005 Jaguar S-Type

This is my second S-Type and the improvements that were made from the 2001 are excellent. The car is fun to drive and it handles better than any other car I have driven. I would highly recommend buying this car if you are looking for completely enjoyable experience.

  • Truly awesome - 2005 Jaguar S-Type
    By -

This is my third Jag ( after 2 VDPs) and also follows 3 S-class MBs and a BMW 540. AWESOME is the only word for the experience. The first touch to the accelerator made my heart beat faster as this absolute masterpiece of automotive engineering roared onto the freeway. Could not imagine needing more power ... arrived at work (an hour plus drive) with no stiffness of the back or legs perhaps due to having been surrounded by the strains of Beethoven on a more than adequate stereo system!!
