Pros:
  • Good value.
  • Handsome, well-appointed cabin
  • Sporty handling
  • Simple controls
  • Good fuel economy
Cons:
  • Below-average cargo space.
  • Firm ride

It is a prettier and cheaper SUV than the main two alternatives we were looking at, the CRV and Rav4). However, after you drive the Tuscon a while, you begin to notice more and more reasons for the lower price tag. It starts out with just cabin noise, then you notice the very poor quality sound system. The slightest touch from another car produces a ding. Sometimes for no reason, I am unable to lock the car doors when exiting. I assume it thinks the key is still in the ignition but that is not the case (electrical?). Now I notice that the picture on the back up camera is blurry but the dealership tells me that it is operating as designed and Hyundai consumer affairs agrees.

Drove this vehicle for over 3 years and purchased new. Began to notice problems right away. Bouncy ride, felt more on second row seating. Fuel economy MPG numbers far from advertised. Small fuel tank 13gal equals short range. Annoying Rattle noise coming from trunk, noisy shocks. AC fan replaced at 17k miles because of high pitch noise. Low pressure tire sensor failed. Fan speed choices not adequate, its either too high or too low. Driver and passenger seat too narrow.

I have 58,000 KM on my limited, so lets start with the good. The styling is beautiful. This vehicle is beautiful inside out. Hyundai has definitely changed their game to appeal to a wider base. The bad: - Mileage - Constantly between 11.6L/100km to 12.7 L/100km. Not a big fan. - Fan started making noise at 45000km. Dealer fixed. - Sunshade from sunroof opens partially every week. Dealer says its due to the vibration form the wheels. (What vibration?) - Rattle in trunk (Same reason as above apparently) - Bluetooth sounds muffled to receiving party (Seems fine to the dealer) - Oil changes every 6000 km (Is this car from the 80s?) Overall we will see if it goes downhill...

  • 2011 Hyundai Tucson Limited - What a Mistake - 2011 Hyundai TUCSON

I bought this vehicle in Nov 2010. The first thing I noticed was the gas milleage that I am getting compared to the manufacturer values. It was way off. I get less than 20MPG. So OK. I can live with that. Then the car turned 2 years old then the trouble begun. You name it and it broke. CV boot, fan motor, power sunroof, ABS and just yesterday, all the warning lights on the dashboard went off at the same time. That was scary. The ABS engages even when I am just going 30KPH on a bone dry road. I thought that Hyundai had fixed their quality problems from the past but they obviously havent yet. I had owned 3 CRVs in the past. I should have bought a 4th one. This is the first AND LAST Hyundai!!!

Im not sure if mine is the exception, but my Tuscon every once in a while has an electrical malfunction where the key gets stuck in the ignition, the blinkers fail to work, the locks wont work, and the lights wont turn off. Hyundai nor the dealership cannot figure out why this occurs. I was really looking forward to having a reliable vehicle with awd, good gas mileage, at a good value. This was my first Hyundai, and will definitely be my last. I noticed an article in inside line, where the testing manager had the same issue with the 2011 Sonata being reviewed. I wonder if this may be a Hyundai issue and not an isolated problem with just my vehicle. I definitely wouldnt recommend buying.

  • Lacking - 2011 Hyundai TUCSON

The Tucson seems to have pep and for the most part is fairly comfortable. Irritations I have with it is that the seats are located so far toward the middle that every time I enter or exit the bottom of the door jam hits the back of my leg so Im walking around with a dirt streak on the back of my slacks. Second, the side mirrors are located so that it creates a blind spot. Back seats lack enough padding on the seat. I would not buy another.
