Overview & Reviews
Honda has completely redesigned the Civic for 2006. Highlights include a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, new exterior styling, an advanced interior design and more premium features. The company has also improved the gas-electric IMA system for the Civic Hybrid and restored the Civic Si trim's potency with a 197-horsepower engine and a sportier coupe body style. Midway through the year, Honda will also introduce a new "GX" trim level that runs on natural gas.
- Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, lots of standard safety equipment, roomy and refined interior, special Hybrid, GX and Si models.
- Polarizing dash design, top-of-the-line models are pricey.

Doesnt Deliver As Promised - 2006 Honda Civic
By Jim - March 10 - 11:53 amCall me a critic but the gas mileage is not what the dealer promise. Ive now driven 4000 miles and am averaging 41.5 mpg since purchase. Dealer sold both the Prius and Civic...assured me that the Prius would average 45 mpg but the Honda would get more than that. I purchased the Civic, but should have purchased the Prius!!! Dealer said the car still isnt broken in, yea right!!! Car styling is good, but the wind noise is loud. The console is cool, but the seats are not very comfortable.

Poor quality of new Civic - 2006 Honda Civic
By jack - October 21 - 7:23 pmWe have driven the 06 Civic EX for about 1500 miles; half in city, the other half on Interstate highway. We have encountered several items that indicate poor quality control in this car. 1) The car is not level (right side 1/4-1/2 inch higher than the left). Dealer fixed it by adjusting left front strut, but problem returned in a week. Dealer will try to fix again when take car in for item #2. 2) Driver side front door not aligned--goes to dealers body shop later in week for adjustment. 3) Interior trim loose on passenger side.

Lots of problems, some under warranty, some not - 2006 Honda Civic
By Jim Jones - December 2 - 10:00 amThe paint started peeling after a few years. Recall notice not given until out of warranty. Had to pay $800 to repaint the hood and trunk. Every Honda Civic Ive owned 1996 (224k trade-in), 2004 (190k died), 2006 (still running) had the passenger side window motor fail. However, the automatic transmission is good. Exhaust problem fixed by Honda but it failed again and was a few days over that warranty. On the 2004 Civic the transmission failed and had to be replaced by Honda after only 2k miles, so Im sensitive about that. Ill try an Accord in a few years after I get to 250K or the car wears out.

Honda is slipping - 2006 Honda Civic
By Jeff308M1 - May 12 - 11:13 amCar was bought brand new 2 months ago. Already had to have weather stripping fixed and now paint is cracking and coming off all over. Dealership claims it is environmental wear and tear and that Honda uses inferior paint and advised me to claim it on my car insurance. With a $1000 deductible and no proximate cause except a manufacturing defect, their suggestion does not sound like a good idea.

Is it a lemon - 2006 Honda Civic
By sacmike - December 17 - 10:20 amI am getting about 27/31 on the fuel economy, the spring on the seat belt retract device causes the seat belt to fly into the door panel cause small marks. The drivers door does not close unless it is slammed. the body panels on the drivers side dont line up like they should. Is this because it was built in america i wonder. The passenger airbag light comes on half the time. When the brake is applied and you hit a bump or going over rough terrain the brake pedal feels really wear, like something broke off or is loose. I think getting the air deflector for the sunroof is a must.

Why not perfect - 2006 Honda Civic
By jack riley - November 26 - 2:40 pmThe car is good. I dont understand that a car maker with so much experience has not realized that the headroom is too low. They improved to make the car wider and longer, but failed to recognize to improve on the headroom like Toyota and other car manufacturers did. Thats too bad , because now we have to wait another 10 years for the next model change.

Not what I expected - 2006 Honda Civic
By Mitch B - July 25 - 1:50 amI have had the car for 2 days and 300 miles. I want to bring it back! Drivers seat extremely uncomfortable. Cabin noise excessive at highway speed. Doors and trunk do not close easily. Speedometer distracting. Radio sounds as if Im under water. Headlights are weak. Driving off the dealer lot a loud rattle in the dash stared as well as the airbag warning light coming on. I had much higher expectations for this car.

too many problems - 2006 Honda Civic
By jkrumm - May 22 - 8:20 pmThis car has more problems than any new one Ive owned. We finally got the alarm system to stop blasting us when we opened the door after the 3rd or 4th trip to the dealer for replacement parts. Then we had to get the window seal replaced because the window wouldnt close. The worst part is how unstable this car is in snow and ice. The rear end feels like its going to cut loose at any moment, even with new snow tires. Im going to bring it in for that, see if the alignment is off. I feel an odd swing to the side when I go over bumps in the rear, could be related. I cannot recommend buying a 2006. Maybe the 2007 will be better. I feel like I deserve a replacement.

Not my dream car- updated from 8/06 - 2006 Honda Civic
By Myfirsthonda - April 8 - 11:23 amMy 1st Honda-after 7mo, I like even less. Car struggles to change gears-told not fixable-electronic transmission. Learn to live with it. RPMs get stuck too high. If driving on bumpy road-car feels like it is thrown sideways out of control-especially on highway over 55 mph,-scary. If past miles the maint.minder scheduled oil change, each time cars started it blinks with the # of miles youre in arrears until you reset it until oils changed.(Maint. light on dash is enough).Drivers window now squeaks with window up/down.Brakes squeal with stop in rain.Car rattles like a car I drove over 90,000 mi.For all the Honda hype, Im sorry I traded in my old car. What did people drive b4 rating this car a 10?

Unpleasant Car - 2006 Honda Civic
By veryslowdriver - December 12 - 2:13 pmBought this for commuting and city use. Seats seemed comfortable in test drive but real back achers in day-to-day-use. Miserable. Powertrain was so so. It could rev up but it was just business. Terrible shifter. Avg 30mpg. Hugely annoying interior rattles that dealer said were normal and would not fix. Handling was only average - a compromise of compromises, not comfortable, not precise, even w/good Michelin tires. My third new Honda and my very last. This seems like an excellent chassis, but not correctly exploited. Toyota Corolla a better choice for a commuter compact, quieter and better mannered. All in all, the car made me miserable. Sold at 6700 mi
