This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has completely redesigned the Civic for 2006. Highlights include a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, new exterior styling, an advanced interior design and more premium features. The company has also improved the gas-electric IMA system for the Civic Hybrid and restored the Civic Si trim's potency with a 197-horsepower engine and a sportier coupe body style. Midway through the year, Honda will also introduce a new "GX" trim level that runs on natural gas.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, lots of standard safety equipment, roomy and refined interior, special Hybrid, GX and Si models.
Cons:
  • Polarizing dash design, top-of-the-line models are pricey.

  • Lemon? - 2006 Honda Civic

I bought the Honda because it was rated car of the year and was known to be a great car. I have had one problem after another, since the beginning. It was hesitant to start and the braking was not right. Honda could not find the problem. I was going thru one set of tires after another, and found out the upper control arm was damaging them. Then the a/c compressor choke went out costing over $1200 and now both headlights went out at once. Has anyone ever tried get to the headlight to replace it. Good luck! Only to find out it was the switch assembly costing another $480. Handles poor in snow, sun visor broke, paint chips all over and the interior is scratched. No more Hondas 4 me!

  • Somewhat disappointed - 2006 Honda Civic

I bought the Civic primarily because of the mpg and because I wasnt ready to buy a hybrid yet. I realized I wouldnt get the numbers they have on the sticker, but thought Id be in the 35-36 range. I drive mostly highway and find the kind of stuttering action weird. Also, two aspects of the Civic performance are a bit alarming. One is when I took my foot off the brake while at a dead stop and the car raced forward. The other is the car is all over the road in windy weather. I had aggressive snow tires on the car that I had to take off one extremely windy day. I got blown out of my lane into the next, in front of a tractor trailer. The car can stay in the lane with the original tires.

  • Bad in Wisconsin Snow!! - 2006 Honda Civic

I bought my Civic because I had always heard they were great cars. This car drives great unless there is snow. It is not good in the snow at all. It constantly fishtails and I do not feel safe at all. I think this would be a great car if I lived in FL but would not recommend for the northern states that get a lot of snow!!

  • 53,000 BUMPY miles - 2006 Honda Civic

Have had my CIVIC LX for 28 months/ 53,000 miles on odometer. As mentioned in my previous entries the car still rides roughly even on new tires. Rattles in dash, rear deck area. WHY does this car have SO MUCH ROAD NOISE? Clunky transmission-still-now has a new whine to it. Still gets approx 34 MPG, though. KBB, NADA, Black Book value ahead of my pay off. Im proud of that. Thinking of 09 Corolla.

  • What a disappointment. - 2006 Honda Civic

The car responds quickly and smoothly on start but after 80 mph the speedometer rises too slowly especially when the car is full. But that just the beginning. The drivers window came out of frame after about 1.5k miles. Later the interior started to fall apart small plastic pieces in the front corner popped out. After 20k miles front brakes came apart, battery was replaced, the starter and the alternator followed by the ignition key was giving problems. I didnt recognize it. I replaced cpu. The trunk lock broke at like 200 miles of use and the back seat open handle broke off easily. the exterior plastic started 2 fall off recently pins that hold them came out.

  • Bad Design for a Hybrid vehicle - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

I am traveling salesmen. I drive 40K miles per year. So, I figured I would help mother earth and my pocket book. Bought a used HCH hybrid. Great car I thought. When I purchased this car, I was getting 47+ MPG. I have owned for 8 months, and then all the sudden my MPG goes to 36 MPG. I take to dealer and they tell me it is the heat. Well I have driven this car 26K miles in the past 8 months. I told them it was funny that it worked fine, and then all the sudden crappie MPG. They said that the heat or a bad battery was the problem. Ask them is their a test for the battery? Answer No! Seems funny they can tell me the IMA is fine, but they can not tell me the battery has a bad cell.

  • A lot of noise - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

It was fun the first few weeks then in 2 months I started to hear rattling noise if I drive at constant speed 35 mph on flat road and louder noise in the right side when I drive on rough road. The dealer changed the right engine mount which took care of the noise for 2 weeks then the annoying rattling noise is back. Last week the windshield wiper started to kind of drag and shake and make a terrible noise regardless if its wet or dry. Someone may think its subtle but I had cars before..Never like this its brand new 2006 with all of the above!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Overrated Civic - 2006 Honda Civic

Honda has some serious quality problems with their Canadian built Hondas. The hood doesnt even line up right with the fenders. Numerous rattles in the dash area that the dealer cannot fix. The seats are not comfortable on a long trip. The redesigned dash is overrated. Gas mileage is terrible around town (22) On a freeway trip it gets 42 mpg which is good. Too much plastic in the interior which gives the car a cheap look. I just wish I had looked around longer before buying this car. My next car is going to be built in Japan by people who have pride in their workmanship-probably a Acura TSX. This will be my last Honda. For 20k it isnt worth it.

  • Its Not German - 2006 Honda Civic

Bouncy ride. Weak performance. Gas mileage not up to par. Seat material cheap. Has strange steering feel and handling. Our new car delivered with one door a different shade of silver..not immediately noticed, and not a repaint. Waiting for factory determination. Huge scratch on rear window..glass to be replaced free of charge. Where is the quality, and the ride and drive?

  • A Potentially Great Car, But Flaws - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Yes, the automatic shifts smoothly when accelerating normally, but if you accelerate slowly it shifts into top gear at 37 mph and groans like a cow if you then try to push it. Agree with others the head rest is too far forward and my head bounces off it on medium to large bumps. Trunk space has shrunk from 2005 and it was noticeable once I tried to move stuff to it from my old compact. Gas mileage so far (1200 miles) is no better than the old compact (about 31 mpg avg). Wiper on passenger side clears an annoyingly small space to see (due to large window). If youre over six feet, check your head room with the sun roof as it lowers the ceiling. Speakers are good but expected better with six!
