Less enthusiastic after 3.5 years - 2003 Honda CR-V
By ajchien - September 13 - 6:41 pmWhen first purchased, I experienced the PTTR issue. I had to tell the dealership about the TSB that was available to fix it. After the TSB, the PTTR was gone, and has been done for the next 50k+ miles. Now at 50k+ miles @ 3.5 years, the dreadful, well known on many websites (search for it), air conditioning failure occured. Total cost was $2840. American Honda decided to goodwill $2000 of the cost. It is still disappointing, becuase there really is no definite fix to the AC failure and it could happen again. The AC should not be a wear & tear item. There have been 3 actual safety recalls on the vehicle.

Good car, but a couple major problems - 2003 Honda CR-V
By Jman - June 14 - 12:02 amThe 2003 CR-V is the first new car my wife and I have owned. Value, and design were what made us decide on the CR-V over the Toyota Rav-4. All in all, we are pretty happy with our purchase. Only 2 major problems have occured in the past 3 years. The first one was the air conditioning system self destructing. Metal shavings went through the system and the entire thing had to be ripped out and replaced. The second one was the rear differential. The 2003 manual says every 60,000 miles the fluid needs to be replaced - under severe conditions. Buyer beware, it is more like every 15,000 to 20,000. Our rear diff was fried at 37,000. They replaced it under warranty though. $3000 worth.

Honda CR-V LX - 2003 Honda CR-V
By BeauxArts - April 8 - 10:00 amAfter 4 months of ownership, I am dissapointed to have two recalls. Along with that, my rear hatch activatior is weak and needs to be replaced. My previous car I had for 10 years, with nary a recall. I shutter to think what other recalls are down the line.

Honda has lost another customer - 2003 Honda CR-V
By Angel T. B.Hall - July 14 - 2:00 amthree months off the truck, the transmission completely obliterated. Seemingly, endless recalls. Most recently, air bags. In the sixteen months that we have owned this vehicle we have experienced complete A/C failure, trouble switching gears, four recalls for potentially fatal mishaps. And of course the transmission that died on us on our drive back from vacation. Dont make the mistake we did.

Got this for Safety Reasons - 2003 Honda CR-V
By Threadbunny - October 31 - 10:00 amI got this suv because of the safety rating. I like it OK, but, I cant stand the back door that opens to the side. It has no catch, so if you are parked on any type of incline the door slams shut on you or anything in its way. The inside is comfortable, but, the rug is already coming up. I have had a maint. req. light and the car has had 2 recalls that it has had to go into the shop for. I do like the comfort in the back since my passengers are fairly tall and they say it is spacious. Also I was tapped at very low speed (less than 5 miles per hour) and a huge hole was placed in the bumper. So much for safety!

A Different View - 2003 Honda CR-V
By DanaT - February 17 - 10:00 am1) The car is downright boring to drive. It doesnt handle like a car and off-road, is a joke. Is is not powerful. It really doesnt do anything bad but also nothing great. 2) The CRV is one of the noisiest vehicles I have been in lately. There is more road noise than can be imagined. 3) Quality: not what I would "expect" from honda. the wheels are already corroding (and I live where there is no humidity). The black plastic is fading horribly. The car has been in and out of the shop constantly. Everytime the oil is changed there are huge oil spots on my garage floor. Overall, i would give this car a 5 out of 10.
