This Year's Model Updates:

Honda takes a bold leap for 2005 with the introduction of the Hybrid Accord. Rather than add a hybrid motor to its four-cylinder, Honda bolts its third-generation IMA system to the Accord's already-potent V6. In one fell swoop the Accord hybrid has become the class leader in fuel economy (30 city, 38 highway) and power (255 horsepower). Other changes for the 2005 Honda Accord this year include new wheel cover designs for the LX and EX trims, a new coin pocket design, illuminated steering wheel controls and improved rear styling in sedans with redesigned taillamps. In addition, front-seat side airbags and full-length head curtain airbags are now available on all trim levels all the way down to the base DX model.

6-speed transmission sometimes "popped" out of third gear the moment it was engaged or was just difficult to engage. Problem began on day of purchase. First two dealers unable to duplicate problem, so American Honda customer service unhelpful. Third dealer service department was eventually able to duplicate and pursue the problem. Shifter cables and then transmission replaced under warranty. Unexpected noises from rear end corrected with replacement of suspension linkage, exhaust componenets and strut. Total of eight warranty service visits and sixty days in the shop before 5,000 miles were on the odo. Honda service departments vary in quality. Find one that gives fixes, not excuses.

  • Great car but noisy - 2005 Honda Accord

Had the car for five months now had no problems so far just an air bag recall... First day i drove it home, had to take the freeway i noticed door wind noise and the suspension a bit springy or tight...After five months still noisy and the suspension bouncy. Other than this car is great. Mileage is good looking at todays gas prices..... Great car just two important negative selling points for my next honda.

  • Needs road comfort - 2005 Honda Accord

My only complaint is the feel of every tar strip and bump as a thud not a good ride. Our traded in car, a 2002 Accord EX 6, was a dream road feel compared to this 05 model! If only Honda could keep the handling and have a softer road bump transmission to the passengers we would be 100% behind this car. If this doesnt bother you, go for it. This car is a bargin and fun to drive. Its only that the wife hates the thuds.

  • 05 accord - 2005 Honda Accord

Excellent vehicle for the price no returns to dealer for repairs after 1 year of ownership. Highly recommended for a midsize sedan. Too many buttons which are clustered together and distracting for the driver to use. Excellent performance from the 4cyl. version no need for the larger V-6. As expected Honda continues to improve there product instead of changes for the sake of change. Over all I highly recommend the Accord for value and retention of resale value.

Particularly impressed by the super smooth transmission. Never missed any forward gear. Gives good gas mileage with aggressive city driving ~25 mpg. Has a well designed interior - everything seems to be in place where you would want it to be. I like the sound system a lot. The center console display gives the car a good interior look. Has some noticeable road noise on the highway, but not enough to decide against buying this car. Except some trouble shifting into reverse gear at times (this is a manual), I have had no problems with this car. It is a year old and has 19K miles on it.

  • A good value but a noisy vehicle - 2005 Honda Accord
    By -

I just bought my 2005 EX 3 weeks ago. It met a number of important needs that other cars I looked at couldnt; fuel economy, backseat leg room, and a reasonable price. This is my second Honda Accord. Honda was discounting the cars below invoice which added to what I perceived as a good value. My only complaint, but its a biggy, is the amount of road/tire and wind noise that makes its way to the cabin. The noise is most prevalent on highways with a high amount of aggregate -- unfortunately this accounts for most of my travel. I initially thought something was wrong with the vehicle but my dealership insists the noise is "normal".

  • Unrefined tech added to a good car - 2005 Honda Accord
    By -

The 2005 Accord Hybrid suffers from unrefined technology. I nearly lemon-lawed the car because the engine malfunction lamp flashed at full throttle. Only a recent software update fixed it. Glacial transmission downshifting makes it a real drag to drive on winding roads. Various electronic systems seem to be prone to glitches and odd behavior. This car is barely a hybrid because the electric motor is rarely used for acceleration. Its primary function seems to be as a virtual flywheel during 3- cylinder operation and a power source for the hybrid A/C. The non-hybrid portions are what youd expect from Honda. The car is quiet, refined, comfortable, and handles decently.

  • My first Honda - 2005 Honda Accord

After very bad experiences with two VW Passats I decided to try the Honda as it was supposedly the most reliable in the market. Both acceleration and handling are better than the Passat though the brakes need to be changed. Interior design is less than that of the Passat but still very nice. My engine is pinging even with mid range gas, Honda’s reply is to put premium in, though their brochures and website recommend regular. Though gas mileage is good premium price eliminates savings. Dual climate control does not work that well. Lastly, it is just not as fun to drive as the Passat, I can however sacrifice a little fun for the huge savings over the VW. Overall I enjoy it.

  • Great Car for the money. - 2005 Honda Accord

I got my accord dx a few months ago and have put on about 7000 miles. I have had no problems, and find the car to be great fo long distances. It is comfortable and roomy.

  • No spare tire - 2005 Honda Accord
    By -

I also was surprised to learn that this car does not come w/ a spare tire. I went to a used tire place and purchased a full size spare /used rim for $85. I am wondering if this heavy tire will affect my gas mileage. I plan on only using it for long distance trips. Also was disappointed that I had to purchase the compass/ auto diming rear view mirror...think it should have been standard on a $30K car! Love the satellite radio and the car drives really smooth. So far the mileage indicator has been 32 at the highest number, 28 lowest. Fun to drive, really quiet. Very comfortable.
