This Year's Model Updates:

There are several model/series changes, as well as updates to the exterior, interior and powertrain. Ford says a new transmission has improved shift quality and the 3.8-liter V6 is standard on all Windstars. The base model is now called the Windstar LX three-door. The SE Sport is a new trim level and it includes driving lights, painted bumpers and body-side molding, a rear lift gate spoiler, a second-row bucket/console seat, a roof rack with brushed aluminum crossbars, black rocker cladding, and different wheels and tires.

Pros:
  • Top-flight safety equipment and ratings, plenty of interior features and options, sonar backup warning system.
Cons:
  • Floaty ride, restricted legroom for second- and third-row passengers, noisy engine.

  • Loved my van - 2001 Ford Windstar

We purchased our van new and it has been an excellent vehicle. The electric doors were a great feature new but after a few years they began to not work all of the time. Last year at 160000 had trouble with the break light, engine light coming on and it has stayed on. I would still be driving today at 209000 miles if I hadnt encountered a deer.

  • NO PROBLEM HERE 186 K LATER - 2001 Ford Windstar

Thats right I got almost 186,000 miles on my van.I wont bore you with details but I got maybe about $600 in mechanical maintenance in it.Also Needed the usual stuff (brakes ,oil changes, tires).I can tell you this much, the biggest secret that I learned from my brotherinlaw is change the transmission fluids early .These ford transmissions are delicate, needless to say I have changed the transmission fluid twice and thinking about doing it again(Yup Original Trans). It did need a small map sensor ($60) and a coil pack I think they are about $80.It has yet to get a wheel alignment still drives straight .I drive this car all over united states and I haul heavy car parts with it !

  • Great van with a few problems - 2001 Ford Windstar

At 83000 miles, have replaced the intake manifold gasket, $1000, and ABS unit, $600. On second set of tires. Father-in-law is a car nut and says it rides like a limo, very comfortable for long trips between Houston/Denver. Styling is nice, no paint problems. Gas mileage has consistently attained the 18/24 rating. I drive conservatively and do all maintenance, so cant explain problems others have had.

  • Just letting ya know - 2001 Ford Windstar

When we first purchased the car at 80,000 miles we were very happy with it. Weve taken it on one long drive from Colo to Calif with me with pnemonia (sp?) and it was confortable anyway. Now that weve owned it for 2 years weve only had to replace the ABS module, and brakes. Something weird is happening with the fuel getting down past 1/4 tank. It wont start as if its out of gas. We just watch the fuel gage and all seems well. Drives well and we feel really safe during snow storms. Been through a couple of blizzards and only got stuck once. Tire pressure gauge is great letting us know when to get new tires or fill up the tires with air.

  • Good Car - 2001 Ford Windstar

Well, the good thing is we bought the car used, July of last year. Since the car has been around for a while the few problems we have had, we could find the solution easily over the internet. Anyways we got the car for $2,800 and it has paid for itself 10 times over since then. It has a very comfortable ride, and its safe. This car has given us less problems than the 07 Camry we bought last year.

  • Best non soccer mom van ever! - 2001 Ford Windstar
    By -

Powerful, nice looking, easy seat removal, holds resale value, 18-24 mpg was right on, tires wear great versus a lot of vans that wear out front tires. Lot of pick up and very comfortable. Radio iffy so replace with aftermarket. Otherwise a 10!

Bought this Van to haul the family around and couldnt be happier about the purchase. Lots of room for kids and luggage. Never had any issues with engine or doors. Great with the gas mileage, handles well in ALL conditions. Use the Windstar for daily commutes as well as long trips and it does both well, feels like Im sitting in my chair in the family room its so comfortable.

  • Very happy with the van - 2001 Ford Windstar

Much less money than competing imports. In 3 years and 36000 miles no problems other than a check engine light caused by a bad sensor (EGR flow P0401) and covered by warranty. Good acceleration for a van, lots of room especially with back bench folded down or pulled out. Feels safe and solid to go along with 5 star crash rating.
