This Year's Model Updates:

Lower-line V6 models get standard 16-inch alloy wheels and a new hood while losing the fake side scoops. Premium models can be equipped with a Mach 1000 audio system. Both this system and the Mach 460 get speed-sensitive volume. Later this year, an MP3 player will be available. Performance Red paint is replaced with Torch Red.

Pros:
  • Strong V8 power with GT, fun to drive, appealing all-American style, good crash-test scores, ragtop option.
Cons:
  • Solid rear axle, excessive gingerbread detailing on GT, poor stereo ergonomics, flaccid seats.

  • Slow But Fun Stang Vert - 2002 Ford Mustang

I have a silver 02 v6, automatic Convertible which is so much fun to drive. But not a lot of get up and go from a stop, but has plenty of highway power. I should have either got the GT or a 5 speed for to dead stop power.

  • Good Bang for your buck - 2002 Ford Mustang
    By -

Since I have always owned V8 powered cars, including Mustangs, I was a little skeptical that this car with a V6 would have any guts or fun to drive factor. Well, I was wrong. It has good power and decent handling. The interior needs improvement as well as the seats no thigh or lateral support.

  • Get one! - 2002 Ford Mustang

Bought this car used from a private party. Granted the transmission Ford outsourced may be the weakest link and I have taken it to the dealer for repairs. Otherwise the car runs smooth and drives great. The seats could be more comfortable and the dash is a little plain but the performance and bang for the buck this car provides is worth it. I love being part of the history of a great automobile name.

  • 4.6 motor oil leak, head gasket - 2002 Ford Mustang
    By -

After the car had approximately 2500 miles I started smelling burning oil. The dealer investigated the smell during the first oil, said nothing wrong. They discovered an oil leak on the head gasket and said the head gasket was blown. They said this was the cause of the smell. I was in disbelief, how could this happen I am the only driver and the car has always run fine and never run hot. The dealer said this was an isolated problem.Ford replaced the head first when that failed to correct the problem they installed a rebuilt engine. When I complained they extended the warranty to 100K.

  • Very Satisfied - 2002 Ford Mustang

After owning a True Blue / Graphite interior convertible for 6 months, we havent had any problems or trips to the dealer for repairs. Performance could be better, especially since other brands are getting over 250HP from smaller V6 motors (my 11-year-old Accord is faster). However, since this is a relatively economical model, we dont expect as much. We just drove 800 miles on a recent trip, and it ran smooth and strong on the freeway. It was really great winding through wine country in central CA with the top down, warm sun, beautiful ride.

Interior needs update, is old-fashioned looking. Gauge layout is blah. Seats have no lateral support.

  • For what it is, Im satisfied. - 2002 Ford Mustang
    By -

Overall its a very fun car to drive on smooth, twisty roads with the top down. Throw in the Mach stereo system and a lot of fun can be had. To get the most fun out of this car, it needs to be pushed: high revs and twisty bits of pavement will plaster a smile to your face. As far as practicality is concerned, this car leaves a bit to be desired. The trunk is small and the back seat is barely usable. Get this car off of smooth surfaces and squeaks and rattles abound. The FE isnt too bad for a V8. If youre looking for a fun, RWD, convertible that has great looks, a decent interior, a great sound system, youll probably be satisfied with this vehicle.

  • 2k2 Ford Mustang 3.8v6 - 2002 Ford Mustang

All in all, Ford has put out a decent enough commuter vehicle and/or fun- car. As an owner of the 2k2 Mustang, I can say that its stock performance alone leaves you a bit wanting... you LOOK fast, but youre comparatively slow. However, very little money needs to be put in to make this a sleek and stylish vehicle for your everyday use (Namely, window tinting). And for those of you who plan to put some money into your stang, the modification possibilities are incredibly vast... so you can truly make your stang personalized.

  • My Blue Pony - 2002 Ford Mustang

I am 23 and within reason, this is definitely my DREAM car!! I love the fact that I see all kinds of different people driving around in a Mustang-- frat boys, hot college chicks, moms, dads, even the occasional "Senior." This car is fun, fast and definitely an attention getter. I considered the GT, but decided the V6 was plenty of power and was told by a few other people that the little extra power you get is not worth the BIG insurance increase and frequent stops at the gas station. If you like to live life with the top down, this car will make you happy every day.

  • Good Looks/Performance, ok Build Quality - 2002 Ford Mustang
    By -

What drew me to this car is the great exterior design: The stance is good, the ride height is right on, the wheels are sharp, Mineral Grey color is gorgeous, I personally like the scoops. The acceleration is great for day to day driving, especially if you need to get around someone on the freeway. The handling makes drivingaround town fun. Ford puts a decent stereo in this car (Mach), but the exhaust note sounds even better. Im not too thrilled with the interior quality (seat foam, dash plastics that squeak), but I can live with it knowing what I paid for a V8.
