This Year's Model Updates:

Four new Focus models debut for 2002: the ZX5 five-door hatchback, the well-equipped ZTW wagon, the sport-tuned SVT hatchback and the Mach Audio ZTS. No matter what Focus you pick in 2002, a power moonroof can now be ordered. The high-end ZTS Sedan loses its standard ABS and crummy fake wood dash trim while gaining a rear spoiler. An in-dash six-disc CD changer is standard on ZX5, ZTS and ZTW but optional on all other Foci except the LX Sedan.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful ergonomics, large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.

  • As Fun to Drive as they say - 2002 Ford Focus
    By -

Our 2002 Focus ZTS is as fun to drive as they say it is! It corners great and has fairly good acceleration. This has been a great car for a family of 4. We have two young kids and they fit well, including taking one of their Grandmothers with us at times. The trunk is surprisingly roomy and holds enough luggage for a week long road trip. We have had no mechanical problems and only one repair due to a missing retainer on the inner wheel well trim.

  • Great little car - 2002 Ford Focus

I have owned this car for over 5 years now and its been overall a great experience. The car has over 82,000 miles now and I still get over 29 miles per gallon and the engine still runs strong. never had a problem with it other than a faulty spark plug, but that is maintenance. one and two year old domestic cars are the way to go!! you get a new car at a fraction of the cost.

i bought a ZX5 last november and for the price paid this is the best vehicle i have ever owned. it is solid, comfortable and handles/drives better that anything comparable. i suggest the 5-speed unless you cant drive one because it enhances the overall driving experience of this fun car. the car feels like a much larger vehicle as far as the ride quality goes. ive had no problems and have 3000 miles on the car. the sound system is way above average for a stock system as well. i would recommend anyone at least test drive a focus before you buy any other comparably priced vehicle.

  • So Far, So Good ! - 2002 Ford Focus

With all the troubles concerning Focus quality, I was a bit hesitant to purchase the SVT. After driving it, I loved it and bought it! Reasonably quick, smooth drivetrain, excellent handling, comfortable, decent mileage, great stereo, leather, moonroof, ABS and exclusivity too. Nothing else this much fun for $16K. Steering wheel audio controls are even included, helping keep my focus on what this car does best; drive! 10 months, 7900 miles and no issues. Minor tailgate creak I cured by adjusting the screw in rubber hatch stops. Owned a 99 Civic Si, but the SVT simply shines on long trips whereas the Honda would "buzz you to death" after 400 miles or so.

  • Merkur XR4TI Reborn as Ford Focus ZTS - 2002 Ford Focus
    By -

As a former owner of a Merkur XR4TI, I could not help noticing the similar shape and design of the 2002 Ford Focus ZTS. At 64" I fit in the drivers seat snug, but comfortably. Plenty of headroom. The dash and instruments look like a work of art. You either love it or hate it. Have put 6,000 miles on it so far through snow storm, sun and rain. Drives beautifully an tracks like a true sports car. Suggestion: Use premium gasoline only. It increased my mileage to actual: 25 City/34 Highway. 34 average on a 2,000 mile trip. The increase in fuel cost is compensated by the increase in actual miles per gallon. Wanted a new 2005. New design stinks. Very, very, happy with my 2002 model instead.

  • LX Sedan Review for Ford Focus 2003 je - 2002 Ford Focus

I am very happy with my purchase. The Focus was recommended to me from a friend of mine who had one. You feel safe in it. Fuel economy is great, especially with rising gas prices. It is fun to drive. It has a smooth ride. My only concern is that when it initially came out Consumer Reports rated it very highly. Later, it lower its ratings because of its realiability and customer satisfaction.

  • I survived and so will you - 2002 Ford Focus

I bought my car for travel, commuting, and the large cargo space. I never thought it would save my life. After performing above industry spec for four years my car was hit head on and broadsided. Both air bags deployed, crumple zones crumpled and center bars held. I was able to climb out of my car the other to cars did not hold up as well. While searching for a new car there was only one car to look at the Ford Focus, now I just have to decide which model I want. I highly recommend it for teenagers and mothers with young kids. Trips to home depot and the grocery store in this car never left me wondering where things might fit.

I love this car, it is reliable and I have not had any problems. I got it to replace my Plymouth Breeze after I was in a auto accident. The color and the room in it is awesome, and its really comfortable for road trips. And the gas mileage is awesome, 26mpg around town, and 31mpg highway.
