This Year's Model Updates:

Arriving in 2003 for the XLT supercab styleside configuration is the Heritage Edition, which includes 17-inch wheels, a chrome cab step and various stylistic flairs such as a black bedliner, a lower valance, paint striping and a paint scheme with a raised cut-line. Also new is an STX edition for the XL- and XLT-trimmed regular and supercabs that includes an MP3 player combined with a monochromatic color scheme and clear lights, among others. Upgrades for the fancy King Ranch flavor consist of fake wood for the interior, lighted step bars and an in-dash six-disc CD changer. For the Lariat, expect a standard rear window defroster and a Pioneer CD and cassette system (the latter is also newly available on the XL and XLT). Harley-Davidson models have the option of getting a two-tone black-and-silver paint. Finally, a new LATCH system helps you tie down the kiddie seats properly.

Pros:
  • Wide range of configurations and features, capable powertrains and suspension, attractive styling inside and out.
Cons:
  • Poor IIHS crash test result, everybody and his brother has one.

I love this vehicle! I catch people staring as I drive on the roads and I cant blame them. Id be staring too if I were an observer! The 2003 body style is heads-and-shoulders above the 2002 design. The interior is nicely appointed and very comfy. Plenty of leg room and very esthetically pleasing. The bold chrome Harley-Davidson emblems placed at various locations inside and outside the vehicle add a dynamite flavor. This vehicle oozes Harley-Davidson! Overall, I love getting into this vehicle and taking it for a spin.

For a long time now Ive always wanted a performance vehicle with the capabilities of yesterdays muscle cars like the Chevy Chevelle, Pontiac Trans Am, and all of those mean Mopars. Well, the SVT Lightning is it! Its totally freakish when you get on the gas at say 50mph and before you know it youre leaving traffic behind as if they have stopped and started backing up!

I have the vehicle for almost a year now. I had the Sport Trac before and did my homework to see the benefits of ownership of this truck. With kids and space availability, Id have to say this is definitely an improvement. I also have motorcycles to haul and this is no problem with the amount of power under the hood. I have done upgrades to the powerplant as well. The truck is heavy compared to others but you can feel the design that went into this product. Ford spared nothing when building the vehicle. There is every option you may want when buying this and really no options to purchase since it is integrated.

This vehicle is very fast and sturdy. I feel very confident to "pull up" next to a high performance car at a red light.

Love the STX 2003 truck! It is a one of a kind. Dont even look at the 2004 STX, it is lacking the package when you compare it with the 2003.

Great truck, not zippy, but the power comes when you need it. What about better mileage?

I traded my 1999 Mustang GT for a 2003 Ford Lightning Truck. This thing pulls in every gear with monster torque. It blows the Mustang GT away and just about everything else on the road. Plus, you can tow a boat with it. The cab in very roomy and the seats support you very well and, keep you from sliding around when turning. The only draw back is that it only comes with an automatic transmission. I don`t really miss it with this kind of power.

I traded a 2000 C1500 Silverado in to try my first Ford pickup. For the few weeks Ive had it, I love it. Although the horsepower is much less than my Chevy (231 vs. 270), it still drives great. The interior look and feel are better than the Chevy, and the ride/transmission is much smoother too. Well see if I end up a true convert. My Dad retired from General Motors so I could have bought any GMC at a discount. Thought I would try the Ford.
