This Year's Model Updates:

A new King Ranch SuperCab arrives for 2002, joining the SuperCrew version near the top of the F-150 food chain. All King Ranch trucks get lighted visor mirrors with a HomeLink universal transmitter and a Travel Note recording device, while KR SuperCrews have automatic climate control and an available second-row bench seat that replaces the standard rear captain's chairs. Get the Harley-Davidson edition for a supercharged 5.4-liter Triton V-8 engine that adds 80 horsepower and new styling cues in the form of flame pin striping and chrome accessories, a new upper chrome billet grille, clear-lens headlamps and clear-lens parking lamps embossed with the label and rivets surrounding the center cap of the 20-inch wheels. The lower-line F-150 XL gets standard air conditioning, and its 4.2-liter V6 receives a ULEV rating. An FX4 off-road equipment package can be added to XLT or Lariat 4WD models and includes upgrades like Rancho shocks, skid plates, special wheels and unique trim. Carryover improvements from late 2001 include seat-mounted seatbelts on SuperCabs, child seat-tether anchors and rear head restraints on SuperCrew models. Also added late in 2001 were optional heated front seats (XLT and Lariat), a power sunroof (XLT and Lariat SuperCab and Crew) and a rear-seat entertainment system (XLT and Lariat SuperCrew).

Pros:
  • Wide range of configurations and features, capable powertrains and suspension, attractive styling inside and out.
Cons:
  • Everybody and his brother has one.

  • TOWING WITH MY F-150 - 2002 Ford F-150
    By -

I PURCHASED MY F-150 IN 9-2002 AND IMMEDIATELY STARTED PULLING MY 7000 LB 5TH WHEEL CAMPER. THE FIRST TIME I HOOKED UP THE TRUCK HAD 80 MILES ON IT. I PULL THIS CAMPER ON AVERAGE 85 MILES TO MY FAVORITE CAMPGROUND. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY TRUCK IT HAS RAN AND PULLED FLAWLESSLY. I AVERAGE 18 MPG WHEN I JUST DRIVE AND ABOUT 13 WHEN PULLING MY FIFTH WHEEL. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN PERFECT WITH PLENTY OF POWER, I HAVE NO PROBLEM RUNNING 75 MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHILE TOWING CAMPER.

Overall Great truck. Ride and power are excellent. Have had a few computer problems so the jury is still out on how well it is built. Overall I love the vehicle and I am going to purchase an extended warranty because I want to keep this one for a long time.

  • The Perfect Vehicle - 2002 Ford F-150

There is no vehicle out on the planet that can match performance, safety, and work capacity of a Lightning. Sure, the there are faster cars out there, but lets see a Camaro, Corvette, M3, M5 come out of a racetrack and haul a 5000lb. boat. Good luck.

  • BEST TRUCK BUILT - 2002 Ford F-150

THIS TRUCK IS THE MOST SOLIDLY BUILT VEHICLE IVE EVER OWNED OR DRIVEN. IT HAS A 5.4 LITER ENGINE WHICH HAS PLENTY OF POWER. IVE ADDED BIGGER & WIDER TIRES FOR BETTER WET WEATHER DRIVING. THIS TRUCK IS DEFINITELY BETTER QUALITY THAN FRIENDS 2002 DODGE TRUCK.

  • My 2002 Lightning - 2002 Ford F-150

I absolutely love my Lightning. It has the best of both worlds from the utility of a truck to the performance of a muscle car. The style and sound is fantastic. The truck is quicker than about 98% of all vehicles on the road. The supercharged engine is easy to modify if you are thinking about upping the performance factor. There are bolt on modifications, such as changing the supercharger pulley, air filter kit, and computer chip that will push the output from 380HP to upwards of 450HP.

Traded up 36 years, from a 1966 Chevy pickup to the 2002 Ford F150. Loved the old Chevy but wouldnt have traded for one a year newer. Ford has surpased GM many times over since the 60s as far as Im concerned. Very pleased overall with the F150, style, performance and the feel of a very solid vehicle.

  • VERY Disappointed - 2002 Ford F-150

I only wish i could write a rave review like most of the other folks. I have always been told Ford makes the best trucks. This is my first Ford truck. Granted, its a 2002 and I bought it in 2012, but its been a money pit. I was unaware of the "blowing plugs" issue with certain years. Well, i have that year, I guess, and twice plugs have popped. according to complaints, Ford refuses to acknowledge and fix the problem. Now, I have to spend $250. and get new plugs every 30,000. miles. This truck has hurt me, financially. The plugs, heater core, motor for power windows, the shifter has a lot of play and is difficult to get in gear sometimes. I was told i could no longer be tightened and needed a new mechanism in the steering column, $500. The motor for the 4x4 just went, 1/2 of the interior dash lights have burnt out, and the heater blower motor is really noisy and ready to be replaced. add this to the regular stuff, and im tapped. many things i expect, but worrying about spark plugs malfunctioning, and getting hit with not-so-common problems is put a sour taste in my mouth about Fords. Not sure id buy another Ford truck

  • Johns Lightning - 2002 Ford F-150

I have owned this Lightning since I bought it in February, 2002. I drive it nearly every day, and there has not been one moment that I have regretted purchasing this truck. It has plenty of power, good looks, and comfort. I have had people of all ages tell me what a good looking vehicle it is. My wife and I love to go on trips in it, and it is very comfortable for both the pilot and passenger. I also haul home maintenance supplies in it. It is the most fun to drive, best looking, and practical vehicle I have ever owned (including 1958 Austin Healey 100-6, 1959 Chevrolet Impala, 1970 Olds Cutlass W- 31, 1976 Toyota Celica, 1984 Porsche 924. I love this truck!
