Overview & Reviews
The 2002 Ford Explorer has been overhauled in an attempt to make it more carlike than ever before. Among the improvements are a 2.5-inch-wider stance and 2-inch-longer wheelbase for improved handling and roominess, a new independent rear suspension that improves ride and handling, while at the same time accommodating an optional third row of seats, larger door openings with a lower step-in height, an optional side curtain airbag system and an optional Reverse Sensing System.
- Available third-row seating, independent rear suspension, powerful engines, attractive new exterior design.
- Everyone and his uncle has one, driving characteristics are still pretty truck-like.

Love my Explorer - 2002 Ford Explorer
By Guillermo - November 20 - 9:29 pmI use this truck only for roads trips and as family car. It has a very smooth drive comparing to other SUVs it also has one of the biggest V6 engines of its class the space for passengers and cargo is more than enough aven if you are on the last rear seat. Just to make shorter, great performance, comfortable interior, nice looking desing, built to last, all that you can expect from a Ford truck.

No major problems here - 2002 Ford Explorer
By Happy With It - October 29 - 10:00 amI think the reviews are pretty tough on sites like this because more often than not, it is the people who have problems that seek out to put up a review. Anyway, love my Explorer - just right size, not to big or too small. Tows like a champ with the healthy V8. Only two minor issues - squeaky front suspension and the airbag warning light came on. The dealership replaced the bushings on the front suspension and replaced a sensor for the airbag - no problems since! I think the transmission definitely could be improved. I sometimes find it slipping into gear after moving from park to drive or reverse, but once again, not the end of the world. Im happy!

Chevy Guy - 2002 Ford Explorer
By Chevy Guy - August 10 - 10:00 amI finally gave in and bought this Ford SUv for my wife and kids. What a surprise and pleasure it is to drive. the V8 is almost too powerful for what I need but great to have when you need it.

2002 Explorer - 2002 Ford Explorer
By Love My Explorer - April 28 - 1:16 amI have nothing but praise! Sits 6 easily. I have a daycare and have 4 car seats that I have to load kids in and out of 3 times a day. I wouldnt have a different SUV! I feel very safe driving the kids to and from school in even the worst of our winter storms. Cold outside. Safe, warm and secure inside my Explorer. It also has the safety clips for the 4 car seats which is just another secure advantage for me. It has never let me down in over 3 years that weve owned it.

I Love It - 2002 Ford Explorer
By Tony - March 29 - 5:46 pmBought our Explorer brand new (our first new car) and have loved it ever since. We have even pulled our camper for one year; it weighs 5000 pounds. Works great for my wife; she does daycare and it has plenty of room to haul anything we need. We just love it.

I cant believe it!!! - 2002 Ford Explorer
By Explorer II - December 31 - 10:00 amYou could have knocked me over with a feather if you would have told me Id be buying another explorer. I just had a 93 for 9 years and was ready for another vehicle. I was origninally thinking of a BMW X5 but the price was way out their, especially in this economy. I took the 02 explorer for a test drive and "thats all she wrote", I was sold. Rides like a luxury car and feels the same. Would not even know you were in an SUV. Ill know more in the upcoming New England winter but I would think this babys gonna perform as advertised, magnificently. So far, so good and am quite satisfied.
