This Year's Model Updates:

The Excursion's final year of production is 2004 so there are few changes from last year. Ford's excellent new 6.0-liter turbodiesel V8 replaces last year's 7.3-liter diesel. Besides offering considerably more horsepower and torque, the new engine has cleaner emissions and gets better gas mileage. Several new options are available; these include wireless headphones for the rear-seat entertainment package and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Body-side cladding and illuminated running boards are no longer available on XLT models. Also note that the trim level structure has been revised slightly, as base XLS and midlevel XLT trim replace XLT Value and XLT Premium.

Pros:
  • Substantial passenger and cargo capacity, impressive towing ability, diesel engine option.
Cons:
  • Unwieldy size, trucklike driving characteristics, poor fuel economy, high sticker price.

Great truck. I love the 3/4 ton durability with all the passenger and cargo capacity. Rides like truck not a car but I like it.

I love this Excursion, but with gas prices so high, I dont love paying $100 to fill it up. It is great for hauling a lot of kids and cargo. The versatility of folding down the seats is really nice.

The vehicle drives like a limo. It responds like a 2007. Nothing wrong with it.

This is my second excursion. I owned a 2000 limited and was very happy with it. Since I knew Ford was eliminating the Excursion I wanted a new one. The ride and handling have improved greatly. It is quieter and the additional luxury options make this a dream to drive. I would recommend getting the diesel engine if you drive a lot of miles per year. For me it is not an issue since we only put about 13,000 miles per year on the vehicle. If you have the need, I guarantee you will enjoy driving this on the highway.

  • Awesome All-around Truck - 2004 Ford Excursion

I am very pleased with my second Excursion. I use it for its protected cargo space extensively. Then you can haul 6 or 7 adults very comfortably. I have had absolutely no problems in 60,000 miles. It is not hard to drive like the reviewers say. It rides great on the highway and gets around town just fine! Really wish they wouldnt stop making them.

  • Best SUV Ever owned - 2004 Ford Excursion

We have had 2 Jeeps (which I loved, but not big enough), and a GMC Suburban and love the Excursion the best. I am sooooo glad we bought the diesel even though it is noisy sometimes. Drove over 3,000 miles to Colorado and was very comfortable, I dont understand why diesel is higher than regular, makes no sense. It is the best vehicle I have ever had.

  • I Appreciate my Vehicle - 2004 Ford Excursion

I love the way my vehicle handles when traveling. The ride is exceptional. This is my second Excursion the room they have is added comfort. You are relaxed when you reach your destination -- not tired and all worn down. It gives you a sense of security you dont get from other vehicles. It serves all the purposes I purchased it for. If they stop making them I have no ideal what type of vehicle i would purchase next. The Ford Excursion has proven to be everything I ever wanted in a vehicle.

  • My 03 Excursion is great towing vehicle - 2004 Ford Excursion
    By -

I bought a 2003 Excursion with the optional diesel engine and it pulls my 35 travel trailer like theres nothing behind it! The gas mileage with the diesel engine is better than I got with the 2002 Chevy Suburban (Gas engine) I traded in on it. One complaint is that there is not an optional power sunroof available and an aftermarket one is out of the question since the back A/C and heater vents are located towards the middle of the vehicle making the installation of a power sunroof not possible. The "back-up" warning signals are wonderful as are the pull out trailer towing mirrors.
