Overview & Reviews
The Excursion's final year of production is 2004 so there are few changes from last year. Ford's excellent new 6.0-liter turbodiesel V8 replaces last year's 7.3-liter diesel. Besides offering considerably more horsepower and torque, the new engine has cleaner emissions and gets better gas mileage. Several new options are available; these include wireless headphones for the rear-seat entertainment package and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Body-side cladding and illuminated running boards are no longer available on XLT models. Also note that the trim level structure has been revised slightly, as base XLS and midlevel XLT trim replace XLT Value and XLT Premium.
- Substantial passenger and cargo capacity, impressive towing ability, diesel engine option.
- Unwieldy size, trucklike driving characteristics, poor fuel economy, high sticker price.

have tolike it - 2004 Ford Excursion
By oldhippy - March 9 - 2:00 amI had a suburban before my excursion so im used to big suvs. I like the ex. except I taught I would get better fuel economy .I am a big guy 64tall so its pretty comfortable, except it seems like the front seate are to narrow for someone as big as me. On an overall scale of 1-10 I would give it a 7+

I LOVE MY TRUCK!!! - 2004 Ford Excursion
By VBkid13 - February 25 - 2:00 amMy Excursion is my only vehicle and I love it. Its isnt too bulky to drive everyday. I have used my truck to its maximum capacity in its many versatile ways - space, towing capacity, 4WD, up- scale passenger room or as a real workhorse. I have never been disppointed. Yes, it is a little pricey but well worth it. No, it is not good on gas but would you expect it to be? Its a V10 with amazing abilities and weighs almost 3 tons. Because of the traction that the Excursion has, I very rarely have to engage the 4WD (and I live in snow country). I havent had any bad experiences with my Excursion and I would reccommend it to everyone. I LOVE MY TRUCK!!!!

Great Big Truck - 2004 Ford Excursion
By Jersey Big Dog - February 21 - 2:00 amThis is an excellent family truck, very capable in the snow and tough driving conditions. Fuel economy is what youd expect from this large truck (I avg about 12 mpg combined), power is outstanding, and bad weather capability is exceptional. Forget parallel parking.

Ultimate Hauler - 2004 Ford Excursion
By Bigtruck - February 15 - 2:00 amThis is mysecond Excursion purchased in the last four years. The 2004 6.0 liter diesel engine and redesigned transmission are vastly improved over my 2000 7.3 diesel engine and transmission. This new vehicle has unlimited power and is delivered smoothly and very quietly for a diesel once it has reached temperature.Fuel economy looks promising and will certainly improve as the engine breaks in.
