This Year's Model Updates:

A few functional upgrades take place. The 3.2-liter V6 is dropped as the 3.5-liter engine becomes an option on the ES model, a new SXT model debuts, sporting the R/T's higher-output engine, and the antilock brakes now have Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.

Pros:
  • Plenty of passenger/luggage capacity, agile handling, powerful engines.
Cons:
  • Dated ergonomics, blind spots when backing up, engine noise when pressed.

Bought car new in 2002. Now has 365,000km on a never serviced engine except regular oil changes and one set of platinum spark plugs. But, the engine fault light kept coming on. Noticed that it did so after a rain or during damp weather. Argued with the dealer who replaced all sensors, on-board computer, new wiring harness after telling me not to tell him how to do his job. Took Chrysler to court, won the suit, got all my money back that wasnt covered under the warranty and took car to independent mechanic who replaced the gasket between the gas tank and the car body and have had no problems since then. He said he had done so with many Dodge/Chryslers.

Bought this car for the room and price. Its huge inside. We got the 2.7 for the milage and itll do 30 on the highway. Everything was good until 90,000. It started with a water pump and ended with $3,000. Now the transmision is on the way out and 130,000. Dont forget about the front end falling out of it also. If your going to buy a Dodge go ahead and purchase a transmission with it, theyre terrible. Im done with dodge.

Ive enjoyed owning this vehicle. I have had some problems with the AC and the electrical at times, but seven years into it, the car is still going strong and still looks good.

out of the box ownership, pampered miles, lots of preventive maintenance due to be in love with car, Im in the process of ditching it: second tranny is need it, OEM went at 60K now 100k and starting to act up same way...nothing isolated: rented a brand new magnun in 2007 did the same thing, needless to say drove it150 miles in second gear for a replacement.

I just purchased a used Dodge Intrepid because the 1994 Intrepid I owned was totaled while parked in front of my home. So far I am very satisfied with the 2002. It has a comfortable ride, gas mileage is acceptable and I am looking forward to a good ownership with the vehicle. I also purchase an additional warranty just in case.

When I bought this car, I thought I was getting a great deal on the car. After I brought the car home, the probs hit. Engine light comes on every other day, the oil light comes on after hard use of the car. Driver window will not work now. Thumping sound when breaking, and the CD player died the 3rd week. My friend keeps telling me that Dodges are great but after what I am seeing, I really dont know. The standard 6 in the engine bay has some pep. For being a larger car, it handles good, nothing like my old Ford Focus tho. Handles fair in the rain and it corners like a pig. Also watch out for dips in the road, car bottoms out some times.

  • Best car ever! - 2002 Dodge Intrepid

This has been the best car Ive ever had. One minor glitch in Feburary 05 with a leaking water outlet housing. Other than that, I am highly satisfied with this car and would recommend it to families that need a car with a lot of room. I average 23 MPG overall and it has enough power to get me down the road. As long as maintenance is kept up and as a suggestion to all, use synthetic motor oil, this car will last your over 200,000 miles. Awesome car!

Bought mine new, use it on the highway in northern Canada. Great in ice and snow. Great family car, fits kids nice. Lots of passing power at highway speed. I am 65 and I find it to be a comfortable ride. It is a little bit of work to get in and out of though.

Ive had my SXT for almost 2 years now and Ive had no problems with it. I was rear-ended 8 months after buying it and the shop did an excellent job of restoring it to near new shape. Even with this accident, Ive had no mechanical problems. Great car for long distance traveling or the QUICK jaunts to the corner store. Ive been a MOPAR fan since I was a teenager and the styling of this car fits in with some of the classics such as the 68-70 Charger. Looking forward to this car being the first one Ive owned to far exceed 100K before even considering a replacement.
