This Year's Model Updates:

The 2006 Dodge Charger is a new full-size sedan but shares many of its mechanical components with the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum.

Pros:
  • Striking looks for a sedan, Hemi V8, firm handling, refined ride, roomy and comfortable interior, reasonably priced.
Cons:
  • Looks plain from behind, some low-grade interior plastics, hefty curb weight.

  • My Review would have been better 1 year ago! - 2006 Dodge Charger

One year ago I thought I really loved my Dodge Charger with the Hemi engine. The navigation system was cumbersome and outdated, but I loved it anyways. Then June of 2015 out of nowhere I am driving and I see smoke coming out from under the hood. I immediately pulled over and opened the hood, smoke bellowed out. I had the car towed to the dealer and I was told a piston ceased and I needed a new engine. I was quoted $7k for a rebuilt with warranty and $3200 for a used engine. That just makes me mad! I took care of my car, why did the engine fail. The mileage is 120,000, I was hoping to drive it a few more years. Researching online I found several owner complaints of the 2006 Dodge Charger engine failure, all with similar experiences. The forums are saying that the engine design has caused premature engine failures. Nice. So I contacted Chrysler directly as my extended warranty was through a year prior. I was told that there is nothing they can or will do for me, they said it is unfortunate that it happened, but oh well. Anyone who is looking to buy a Dodge Charger should check out the online reviews and never purchase one without an extended warranty and unless you are a car enthusiast or mechanic, sell the car before the warranty is up! And so much for customer appreciation.

Poor build quality. There was a recall for the shifter assembly that my vehicle was not a part of, that I had to pay out of pocket. Terrible Chrysler customer service. Constant rattle in the front end that the dealer could not resolve. Terrible ride over broken pavement. HVAC never worked properly and it developed a fan rattle in the dash. Parking break never worked. Dodge could not fix. The battery for the car is a M. Benz marine battery and hard to locate. This car was my first and LAST Chrysler product. Never again.

  • well, it Looks Cool! But Eh... - 2006 Dodge Charger

It looks good, it feels good. So good!.until you let the charger run at idle for 10 minutes in your drive way, and bye bye sweet machine. i have an 06 charger R/T. At 92,000 miles(always babied) my radiator fans failed, causing the motor to heat up so quickly at idle it dropped not one, but two valve seats,Quickly destroying all that was my HEMI. $4,000 later, im still having issues with sticky lifters, my flex disk in the rear end snapped, new tie rod needed in the front, starter is bad. Disappointing seeing that Dodge has always been a favorite for me. Just be cautious if you purchase one. I know ever car is different(even being the same model)but still..beware code P0300! Random Misfire

  • Not a happy driver! - 2006 Dodge Charger

I love the style of the car, it does have blind spots, I have added smaller mirrors on the side mirrors to help with this. I am very disappointed in Dodge and their way of handling service. @ 26K needed new tires, have had 3 leaks in the transmission, @ 55K new tie rods, @ 61K diagnosed needed new struts and upper control arm (Dodge wont cover) @ 63K rocker arm in the engine needed to be repaired. The service manager said that this is a design issue (but Dodge hasnt done a recall?), vents are broke and a plastic piece on the drivers seat broke and the screw keeps coming out. Aux plug doesnt work anymore. Rusting as well.I have been very disappointed with this vehicle, already looking to trade.

  • Dream car turned worst nightmare! - 2006 Dodge Charger

I started having issues with my charger 1 year after I purchased, first my driver side window and door locking switches fell down in the door panel, then at 23,000 miles the car really fell apart. First I started to hear a loud noise while the air conditioner was on, then as I was in stop and go traffic when my air is on my car overheats, then I noticed a delay when trying to start the vehicle, then all my air vents popped off the dash. Now at 24,000 miles my shifter locked up in the park position of coarse just after the 3 year warranty has expired. The only assistance dodge will offer is an extended warranty for $1400.00 for 50% off parts and labor.

  • Way too heavy!! - 2006 Dodge Charger

This car is nice inside but needs to go on a diet. The Hemi is struggling with the 4100 pound weight of the car. Add a few passengers and the performance is lack luster.

  • Unfortunately Not Happy - 2006 Dodge Charger

Ive had my car for a little over 3 years and I was really enjoying driving my car, until recently. I guess I was 1 of the unfortunate owners. It all started with a ticking noise, which then turned into a knocking noise, which then turned to my engine rattling and car stalling. And yes, this all happened after my warranty ended. Apparently the rocker arms went bad on the right side and was told the left side would break in time. The shifter broke as well. I had to take it into the shop and 1100.00 later, no noise and the shifter works. Both are known problems and its very disappointing that they werent recalls. Thought buying American was better, guess not Dodge proved me wrong.

  • Serious service issue - 2006 Dodge Charger

I love this car and it is a pleasure to drive it until it shreds my tires because of front end vibration which cannot or will not be repaired by the dealership. Tires have had to be replaced 3 times in 40,000 miles because of this recurring issue. Looking for other owners with same problem for possible resolution with manufacturer.

  • Almost 3 years old - 2006 Dodge Charger

2006 SXT, Cool Vanilla, Sunroof, Leather heated seats. The honeymoon period is over. Although I still enjoy the overall ride, power and performance, I am bothered by the electrical issues, and the cheap interior this car has. Also the lack of amenities other cars offered for the price tag. The bad: Cheap plastic interior, passenger door handle broke, plastic glove box door handle broke. Leather seats look/feel cheap. Electrical sucks, rear driver side window wont go down. sometimes the Sunroof does a wacky open close open when you press the button. Horrible radio, especially with AM reception. The check engine light is lit at only 37K miles. And mind you, I baby this car

  • Love the Car but.... - 2006 Dodge Charger
    By -

I will say I love the speed and the people in the rear view mirror. However there are some things that I am very upset with. A new car after $12,000 miles of use should not already need new rotors. I had to fight the dealership to get this warrantied. At the same time I was having radio issues as well as passengers power window would not roll down. Then came the navagation system, then a transmission leak. All in all it took 1 yr and 3 separate car dealerships to work out the rotor issue (two times), radio/nav. system, transmission leak, power lock. I think finally all the bugs have been worked out. Just hope the car holds up for the years we have to pay for it.
