  • problems w/ engine only 71000 miles - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

I did not have problems within the first 3 years of purchasing the vehicle..Then one day the vehicle starting making a clicking noise...They say the >>cam--??-- valve>>> went in the engine. Jasper is saying that in 2005 the engines were made differently and now they are breaking down around 70000 miles....so they want you to buy a new engine.....There is no recall even though they knew it would be a problem in the future....Not everyone can afford a new engine when on a limited budget....if these manufactures knew there was a problem why no recall......

I have had to replace the stereo twice, the dealership says that "self made cds" tend to not work in the cd players and they will eventually get stuck inside. I cant have the back windows down on the freeway cause of a knocking wind sound but the gas mileage is good. Regular oil changes and tire rotations and maintenance work wonders. The car gets me where I need to go and with any product you buy, there will always be issues. I find that people who complain non stop about their cars are the people who do not do the regular maintenance. This is a long term investment that does require routine care. Sometimes you get a lemon though. It is American made and that is good.

  • Good used car - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

I love the overall gas mileage. The 4 cyclinder has good pep. I have noticed the sun roof rattles? Squeeks every now and then along with the brakes as well at times. I commute 80 miles a day and find it to be a comfortable ride. I always look forward to driving since I bought the vehicle. No regrets thus far.

  • Not too great - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

I had this car for three years. Fuel consumption is great, all controls are good location. Smooth ride. Steering control and braking is excellent. Visibilty is great. Stereo doesnt have aux input and hard or cannot be upgraded. engine are noisy. I sent the car several times to the dealership for steering problem, cd drive running continously, small area paint peeling off under 2 front door and at the luggage door. Within two years under 12000 miles, they had replaced the lower ball joint and lower arm assembly due to clunking noise in the front suspension when it hit a bump even though that I drive it carefully.

  • Good and reliable - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Ive had this car for about three years now. Its at about 70 thousand miles and still running great. I have the base model, so there isnt a lot of power, but the gas mileage is great and its got a decent amount of pep for a four cylinder. The ride is smooth and the transmission is fluid. It has plenty of leg room and the interior, while not made of top grade materials, has held up nicely to a 4 and 1 year old.

  • Should have known better - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Should have known better than to buy another Malibu after having problems with an 01 model. With the exception of the steering column recall, this car seemed very good until about 3 years in. CD changer doesnt work. Interior shotty. Power steering started acting up, numerous squeaks. Then the starting began sticking, and the ignition in the dash had to be replaced at a cost of over $500. Finally traded the thing when the entire electrical system went haywire and blew the turn signals. Chevy makes good trucks why cant they make a car? I will never own another GM car.

  • 2005 Malibu LT 6-cylinder - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

I originally bought this car to commute 76 miles roundtrip to work. Very comfortable, very reliable, very fuel- efficient. 70% highway driving has yielded an average of 28mpg. The only repairs needed have been a couple of recalls and a steering fix common for this generation of Malibus otherwise just oil changes and tire rotations. Not an exciting car, but very, very practical. I had intended to sell it now that Im retired, but Im re- thinking that. A far better value, and a much better car, than my wifes 2006 Toyota Camry.

  • My Malibu LS - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

I purchased my Malibu after a long 3 year battle with my 2001 Saturn L-200. Great car only issue is a slight dash rattle between 50-62 mph other than that its great. Fuel economy is awesome. Great power. Roomy interior. I noticed one individual stated that Chevys are junk and that he was going back to Toyota well go, buy foreign and push our country into more of a recession. This car is a good value no matter what way you look at it.

  • 2005 Chevrolet Malibu LS 4 dr 3.5l6cyl - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Just had my Malibu 2 weeks. So far I really like it. I had to bring it back to the dealer for a steering rack. Hope that fixes the noise. We took a 200 mile road trip and I got 36.8 miles per gallon. Back and forth to work (about 70% highway) I get about 31. Im fairly pleased with that. I think the onboard computer is right on. What people dont realize is that you have to check the Department of Weights & Measures rating on the pump when you get gas. ou dont always get a gallon for a gallon. The closer it is to 12, the more accurate. I always try to fill up at stations that are rated at a 10 12. I find that the cars MPG computer seems to be really close then.
