This Year's Model Updates:

Chevrolet fiddles with the trim levels -- last year's base model is now the LS, while last year's LS model is now the LT.

Pros:
  • Low price, nimble handling, ample headroom, logical control layout, available MP3 player, loads of cargo room in hatchback models.
Cons:
  • Not much power, imprecise manual shifter, side airbags not available.

  • Major Chevy Aveo failure - 2005 Chevrolet Aveo
    By -

I bought my Chevy Aveo brand new in late 05, loved, babied and maintained that car very well. 3 days ago the timing belt failed at only 55K miles on the freeway, totally shut the car down including power steering and brakes at 65mph, Im very lucky I was safe. And now I find out that the engine is basically destroyed because of the belt failure, with repair costs of approximately $2500. And to top it all off I find out Chevrolet knew about this particular problem long ago but did nothing to warn owners or recall, totally negligent. Incredibly corrupt company if you ask me, I and many other Aveo owners are very angry, and I feel a class action lawsuit is necessary

  • Cheap, and it worked for a while. - 2005 Chevrolet Aveo

I bought a used 2005 Aveo automatic in 2007 w/ about 25k miles on it to replace my Toyota Echo. It runs (and the mpg was nice), but has large blindspots in the front corners, so watch for pedestrians while turning & is lightweight so the wind blows it around on the highway. In 2009, w/ 45k mi, while replacing tires, found out there was a bent inner tie rod, which requires replacing this whole chassis ($700-900) it caused tires to wear out faster in the front and the car to wobble between 50-65 mph. 62k mi & the clock broke. After only 64k mi & regular maintenance, the engine died. Better replace the timing belt before 60k mi. Too bad it wouldnt have been worth it anyway. Disappointing.

I bought my 2005 Aveo LS new...very good value, its always been reliable, have had no repairs to speak of that I have made, just routine maintenance such as oil change, or other wearable items such as tires/brakes. The car was cheap, at the time I believe it was the least expensive car in the market. Well the car is also cheap, no frills bells or whistles came with it other then AC, shortly after owning it, the horn and the clock stopped working, those were the only "extras" that were on it, hey I still have radio, but dont try to turn up the volume, our speaker blew, so two work now. Yep cheap car, cheap price. You get what you pay for. But it has still gotten me from a-b!

  • 05 Aveo - 2005 Chevrolet Aveo

Had my 05 Chevy Aveo for almost 5 yrs now. Havent had a single problem with it. Well, except for the pain. My car is yellow. In fact it is 5 different shades of yellow. Obviously a bad batch of paint? Trying to get them to fix the problem, but so far no luck. Also the clear coat is peeling. Im told this is because of the bad paint, makes sense. I use good car wash to wash it and have always kept it clean. The say the whole car will have to be repainted, of course at my expense.

I only had my car two year and it broke down on me in the summer and it only had 67,000 miles on it. The thermostat housing melted the auto repair man said that it happened only because of how cheap the car was made and what it was made of. The car being fuel efficient is great but if something happens and it over heats then you need to get a new engine which is worth what the car it worth. I would not recommend this to anyone.

  • Doesnt run-looks cute in driveway - 2005 Chevrolet Aveo

At approx. 70K mi. the alternator and serpentine belt went out. A couple hundred miles later, there was a loud pop and my engine blew. The "L" shaped piece that connects the engine to the radiator actually blew out of the engine. Of course its not under warranty and I have another year to pay on it!I dont recommend you buy this car!

  • Basic transportation - 2005 Chevrolet Aveo

Three years we have been driving this car. Its is hard to hold on the freeway with any kind of side wind. I can say that is is basic tranportation. Mileage is nothing to speak of. I wished I still had my Metro. It was a better car.

I got this car in Aug. I have had no problems what so ever. There was one recall but it was taken care of very quickly. For the amount that the car cost it is worth it.

  • Dont Buy It! - 2005 Chevrolet Aveo
    By -

Like many people, I need an economical vehicle that will get me from point A to point B. This car is economical, but not very trustworthy. I would not buy it again. As it is, mine has less than 30,000 miles on it and is starting to do things such a new car should not do. It occasionally hesitates upon starting, it makes strange sounds when it is running, the gas light quit working, and its rattling itself apart (the drivers side armrest rattles when driving). I dont trust the car any more and am looking into getting rid of it before the warranty runs out. Of course, its not paid off and this car is worth nothing as a trade in. Bum deal! Dont fall for it like I did!
