This Year's Model Updates:

BMW has seen fit to give the sedans and wagons a facelift for 2002. An in-dash CD player finally makes it onto the standard features list. The center stack has been altered to accommodate the new automatic climate controls. Steptronic automanual operation has been altered so that you move the transmission lever forward for downshifts and backward for upshifts. Bi-xenon headlamps are on the options list so that both low and high beams can glow a cold blue and can be set to automatic operation. Rear side airbags are available for coupes and convertibles. Two new colors, Electric Red and Gray Green (and a Natural Brown interior leather) join the color spectrum.

Pros:
  • Luxurious, powerful, exceptional road manners, available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
Cons:
  • Pricey for their market segment, limited rear-seat space and cargo capacity.

  • Worth the Aggravation - 2002 BMW 3-Series

OK, Ive had problems. Most recently the alternator overcharging. BUT - there is nothing else like this car at this price point. I bought a fully loaded low mileage 02. Once you familiarize yourelf with the Steptronic transmission, you will never buy another brand of car - the performance is that good. And you have to consider the real source for a lot of the little issues - Germans simply do not care about brake dust, wind noise, or cup holders. They want a fast sport coupe that handles well and stops well - period. If you like driving, then the 330Ci is for you.

This has been a great car and one of the best I have own. For a convertible it is very practical although not very fuel economical. Overall have had very very few problems and the car always provides a great driving experience.

  • Great car but still needs improvement... - 2002 BMW 3-Series

325i - 5M, sport package, leather seat, moonroof, HK sound, xenon lights - Tight steering, great handling, love the gearbox. Ill probably add a couple of things to increase the power/torque. Should probably cost 2K less, unless that 2K is the price you pay for being in the club. I would recommend the 330i over the 325i if you can afford it. Overall, its a great car.

  • Mistake? - 2002 BMW 3-Series

Bought a 2002 BMW 325i just a week ago. The few times Ive been able to drive it have been a treat. Battery issue when I picked it up - it ended up back at the non-BMW dealer a few days later. Anyways, it ran great for a day - the Steptronic transmission is fun for me and the automatic allows my wife to drive it, too. The car is a sweet metallic gray and rides as nice. Im hoping the problem can be resolved - two days in the shop and they say the fuel pump needs to be replaced before they can begin to diagnose the charging problem. For now, my 94 318is is keeping me consoled while the drama continues

  • Out of the box. - 2002 BMW 3-Series

Its only got 300 miles on it so far, but I really love it. A great, comfortable and quiet ride with performance to boot and handling to boot.

BMW is still fun to drive, but the quality in no longer what it used to be. The paint gets irremediably damaged from the smallest bird drop, even thougt the car is washed and waxed regularly. In less than 12000 miles, the clutch needs replacement (noise towards the end of pedal) and the engine suddenly looses power while driving.

  • Great Drive - 2002 BMW 3-Series

This is my second 3 series after my E36, 325i. This car drives like a dream! It is not as powerful as I would have liked but it made up in handling. Ive owned this car for almost a year now and it has had all 4 power windows and the sunroof repaired. The coating on the center console and cup holder had peeled off. The rubberized coating of the interior is very prone to scratches. After the warranty expires, Im selling this baby!

  • "Simply Awesome" - 2002 BMW 3-Series

Simply,I cant imagine owning anything else. The service has been the most pleasing of any auto Ive owned. The purchase was hassle free. I never cease to receive complements on the car. Ask yourself ...when is the last time youve heard "awesome car" stated in reference to the one you are currently driving. it happens to me all of the time (even when its dirty).

  • A damn good car, but "ultimate"? - 2002 BMW 3-Series
    By -

BMW prides themselves as the ultimate driving machine, and while this may be true in comparison to some cars on the market, I can certainly say that ive driven plenty of cheaper and more thrilling cars on the market, my wifes 2004 Honda S2000 being one of them. Overall this car has been great outside one annoying problem, the drivers side door handle. Twice since Ive had it now it has broken to where the door could only be opened from the inside (thank god for auto down windows on the remote). Other than that little issue, this car is both a joy and pleasure to drive. Coming from a former Acura CL Type-S owner, I will say that this car performs just as well, without the tranny woes

  • You Havent Driven Until You Have A BMW - 2002 BMW 3-Series
    By -

Have owned it 3 years now and still love it. Averages 25 mpg city/highway. Super in New England weather, but you need to keep up on tire condition. I got 50K out of originals and replaced them with the same. Only complaints are high upkeep costs, and electrical rear tailight that the dealer cant seem to get straight, also it stalls every one in awhile. However, there is nothing like a BMW and this one gives you peace of mind with the all-wheel drive.
