This Year's Model Updates:

The Cabriolet is now available with all-wheel drive, while all A4s now come standard with a tire-pressure monitoring system, revised steering wheels and two-stage airbags. The 1.8T models have been upgraded with 16-inch aluminum wheels and now offer a six-speed manual transmission as an option.

Pros:
  • Classy, well-constructed interiors, sharp handling, precise steering, available CVT transmission and all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Price goes up quickly with options, engines short on low-end torque, sport package makes for a choppy ride.

  • Poor A4 reliability and dealer support - 2004 Audi A4

In less than 3 years and 26000 miles, we have spent $2600 on repairs to our Audi, $1000 for a door that distorted, $1600 for a clutch that failed. We also have a broken catch on a glove compartment unfixed so far. Despite the car having a 50,000 mile 4-year warranty, the dealership has steadfastly refused to fix anything under warranty. From what we can gather, this policy seems to be driven by Audi of America. We will NEVER buy an Audi again.

  • Turbo Lag - 2004 Audi A4

Turbo lag, turbo lag, turbo lag The problems I have had with this car start with the fuel pump humming noise. The dealer replaced it twice. As of now no more noise. AC turns off when it feels like it. I live in florida & it get hot here so AC is a must but the A4 AC seems to have a mind of its own. I had a 1996 A4 with the same problem. Now to my biggest complaint. The 1.8ts turbo lag. Say you are in the middle of the intersection waiting for an opening. In the Audi dont even think about creeping in. You better have a big opening by the time you step on the gas and the car reacts its too late.

  • The True Review - 2004 Audi A4

The cars 1.8liter and 4 cylinder engine with a 170HP sound worse than the actual performance that comes out. I previously owned a Nissan Maxima 6 cylinder and the audi from 0 to 60 leaves the maxima in the dust. However, the car reaches higher rpms much faster and begs the driver for quick shifting. The handling is excellent, however after 6 months with the car, the front struts and axls are creeky. In addition, the car has begun to make louder idle noises. The maxima is as quiet as a pussycat. Overall, it is difficult to compare the two being in different categories and the sacrifices that I made switching to a smaller car (interior is small).

Fun car to drive and handles well. Audi and VW can capture drivers on the appearance and handling alone.

The Quattro performance in wet and snow conditions are excellent. The conner handling is pretty good as well.

  • Not worth the $$$$$ - 2004 Audi A4

I was looking at the "new VW Jetta" at the time, and to get all the things that I wanted cost more that the Audi. Common sense told me to get the Audi instead. I had my car for 7 months with no problems. I was at a stop light when it happened. The light turned green and I stepped on the gas, and the car would not move. The check engine light was one, the car was running, but it wouldnt move. After countless trips to the dealer and being told that the car was fixed (and it wasnt) I had to get rid of it. I hated doing it too. I loved the design of the car, the bose xm radio, tiptronic, and the pure fun to drive feeling. When the car works its great, but when it didnt...

  • Is it just me? Or is it my A4? - 2004 Audi A4
    By -

Longtime lover of the Audi series. Friends all swore by A4s. I finally leased one in 2004. At first I was pleased, coming off of many high end japanese vehicle leases, but I have now been in the shop with a lot of little issues. Started out with drivers power window not closing. Then water leaks in dashboard window which led to freezing ice in winter on the INSIDE. (blamed on water drains clogged?!) Window broken again. Now a/c doesnt work and transmission not shifting properly on hills. Anyone else have these issues or just me? I love my car and Im saddened by all the time it spends in the shop.
