Overview & Reviews
For 2002, the Grand Vitara's model matrix has been simplified. The JLS (rear-wheel drive) and JLX (four-wheel drive) share most equipment, and the Limited Edition is available with either drive system. Hoping to better match the competition, Suzuki upped the V6's power for 2002, improving acceleration and throttle response. In terms of equipment, all Vitaras get the LATCH child seat system, 4WD vehicles now have heated side mirrors and optional heated seats, and the Limited Edition trim gains a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Wrapping things up, Suzuki is now offering 24-hour emergency roadside assistance and towing for the duration of the vehicle's warranty to increase customer satisfaction.
- Standard V6, distinctive looks, low-range transfer case on 4x4 models.
- Harsh suspension, unimpressive brakes, cramped rear seats, lack of cargo space.

POG - 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara
By cherylkf - October 2 - 10:00 amPiece of garbage. Leaks transmission fluid, burns oil, a/c is on all the time, rattles so badly it sounds like its going to come appart like one of those cartoon cars. It started all of this at 18,000 miles. And, I have taken care of it...regular maintenance, etc.

Not Bad for the Money - 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara
By Dwayne - September 24 - 4:26 amI guess Suzuki is the "poor mans Toyota". The cheapest of all the Japanese SUVs, but for much less money - is worth it. Very customer-friendly transferrable warranty, and good customer service. Not quite a Toyota, Honda, Nissan, or Mazda, but I predict Suzuki will catch up to the other Japanese automakers soon.

Fun car to drive for light offroading! - 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara
By Jeff - December 27 - 12:00 pmIve had this car for 3 years and so far its been very reliable. The only problem Ive had is brakes that shimmy. This car is a bit bumpy but the stiff suspension helps out when offroading.(needs more clearance though) My biggest complaint is the cheap plastic side panels. Ive made several repairs on them already and the Nevada sun is causing the paint to peel. If your thinking of buying one go for it as long as you dont mind the side panels falling off ocasionally.

Great Vehicle for the Family! - 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara
By Eric82 - July 14 - 2:00 amI just purchased this vehicle and am very satisfied with its performance. It is fairly spacious and provides easy access to spare tire, vehicle jack, and also has an electrical outlet in the inside rear of the cabin. Good purchase decision on my part!

Great car for the price - 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara
By Vitara Pimp - January 29 - 2:00 amLots of pick-up tons of fun to drive only real complaint is crammed back seat and trunk space. There is plenty of trunk space but only if you put the back seats down. Also the chrome hub caps that they used to come with should be put back on I had go to an after market dealer to get them. Also living in Florida the windows are just too clear and the air conditioner cannot keep up with the heat that comes in through the standard windows so window tinting is a must down here. Other than that a great car for the price there is no better made SUV on the market. To get something better you have to be willing to spend more money.

Enjoy it - 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara
By ajo1975 - September 26 - 10:00 amFun to drive, affordable, though not very economical as far as gas goes. 4x4 is fun to use, and helpful in certain weather. Sturdy and enjoyable little ride.

By 491965 - September 26 - 10:00 amLove this car. Bought new, had for over a year. Comfortable, fun to drive, fun to off-road with. Taken many out-of- state road trips and it has always been reliable and ready to go. Great car for the affordable price. Wouldnt hesitate to but again.
