  This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. 204,000 miles and I still have the original transmission, water pump, alternator, air conditioner, fuel pump, no engine work and only 3 sets of tires. I still get 26 mpg on the highway. A really great car. The only complaint I have had was that the intake manifold broke at 170000 miles. It was made out of plastic. It was replaced with a revised model. Ford should have performed a recall on this.

  I bought this car brand new. Its the biggest car I have ever purchased. I have driven Cadillacs, Town Cars,and Buicks and I can tell you this car is equal to any one of them. It is a pleasure to drive.

  Had bought the 96 GM second hand for $400. Great investment. Drove smooth as can be. I enjoyed the spacious interior. The V8 gave it good pep.

  Love this car. Absolutely no maintenance other than normal We followed the more stringent maintenance religiously, particularly 30000 and 50000 suggestions. Replaced tires and battery once and always used premium fuel.

  My 1996 Grand Marquis now has 79600 miles on it and it still runs strong. No one would guess its age (especially since new ones look simliar). Good accelaration and pick-up, lots of power. I have had to have all the O2 sensors replaced, and the mass airflow sensor has been replaced twice. It still has its original battery. I have also replaced the spark plugs. I change the oil ever 3000 miles. Fuel economy is good for the engine size but still very expensive to use for city driving (I get about 16 mpg city/23 or 24 highway)

  Bought the Merc at 70,000. Car has been the most reliable I have ever owned. Wife loves the soft ride. I wish it had a handling package. Fuel averages 24 on highway. Good for a Big car. Interior is very comfortable. Cupholders block Climate control access. No problems at all. Still has original Starter and Alternator. I will buy my 3rd and 4th GM soon. I will get LS model for my wife and I will get a used Marauder for me. Great Car!

  Purchased the 96 LS as an estate sale from a relative in Las Vegas. This vehicle had sat for one year under a carport near McAllen, Tx....Was in pristine condition w/only 24.8K mi. Paid $200 less than Wholesale. However at 32K mi. had to replace lower control arms (Ball joints rusted on from long term standing).Excellent vehicle /comfortable /Hwy cruiser. 24-25mpg@65, 22-23@70, 18- 19 local....Now live in So. Fla..All the old guys drive Grand Marquis... Great car ! !

  A "solid" car - 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis

  "Solid" because it has meet / exceeded exxpectations. I bought this car in 9/2002 with ~ 70K on it and for $6300. Within the following two months, put in a CD player (a must!), 4 new tires, a tuneup, and a battery (a little over $1000 total). And it hasnt disappointed yet. Although Ive never had to do this with previous vehicles (maybe because of GMs big engine size), I did have to make it a habit to put in a bottle of Heet with each tank in the winter to counter hard-starting probs.

  I loved my Lincoln Town Car I bought in 1989 and was confident the baby Lincoln (my marquis) would be as good. I am comfortable with it an there has been a few mechanical and electrical issues, but overall, I love it. Only spent $2,883.95 on maintenance/repairs since acquiring it in March, 1997. The damn catalytic converter croaked and it would cost $2000 to repair it. The hell with that!

  Good Solid Car- Great Used Value - 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis

  I have had 3 Grand Marquis. A 1985 that I drove to 250 K! A used 1990 that I drive to 200K. The last car was a used 1996 and in has 98K on it. No problems a good solid cars. 2011 is the last year. This was a great car from a generation ago, well built, cheap to run, and it will be missed by me.
