E320 sedans can now be ordered with the sport package, which includes AMG aerodynamic enhancements, specific foglights and 17-inch wheels and tires. E-Class sunroofs now feature one-touch opening.

Pros:
  • Distinctive good looks, lots of standard and optional safety equipment, available all-wheel drive, refined powertrains, rock-solid engineering.
Cons:
  • Stately rather than sporty, gimmicky COMAND system option, no manual transmissions available.

  • Best Kept Secret - 2001 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This vehicle is unique. Way better than an SUV - getting kids in and out of the rear-facing 3rd seat is a breeze. Minivans and SUVs dont have this kind of handling and fuel economy. Mine now has 87k on it and still looks new. I set the cruise at 80 and get 27 mpg with five people aboard. When it snows, we prefer the Benz to my wifes Jeep because the AWD and ESP makes any trip in snow uneventful. Only minor issues --clicking driver seat that I put up with because its $600 (I think) for a new seat adjuster -- and burned out time & temp pixels on the Instrument Panel ($Big$). Id buy another one of these cars in a heartbeat.

  • Love My "E" - 2001 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This is my first Mercedes-Benz. Many of my friends already owned one, so I had a lot of exposure to them. Once I started looking for a new vehicle, Mercedes was at the top of my list. I also seriously considered the BMW 5- and 7-series, Audi A4 & A6, Volvo, Lincoln, Buick, Cadillac, and Mercedes S-class. From the beginning the E-320 was my favorite.

We finally decided to get rid of this car after 23,000 miles and three major trips to to shop. When we bought this car and paid the amount of money one would expect for a Mercedes, we expected excellent quality and that is NOT what we got! The car is nice, has good design and rides well. But we cannot understand how the doors couldnt quite close right, the transmission as bad, and numberous other electrical and mechanical failures keep the car in the shop. The only good part of this story is that it was covered under the warranty. The bad news is someday somebody else will own if afterwards and have to foot these bills!

  • Id Buy Another - Its Been Very Good - 2001 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I purchased this off a new-car dealer via eBay; had 78K on it then; now has 125K. This car sure beats the newer Cadillac SRX that I dumped due to horrible reliability. This is my "work truck" for renovating rental homes - back seats are often down with building materials in the back as the car tows my 5x8 utility trailer behind, with 2 dogs on the front seat. The 4-Matic never gets us stuck, as we love to ski in the winter and travel in snowstorms. Slightly-stiff seats utilize excellent- grade leather & show only minimal wear (some leather dye sprayed on annually keeps them nice). Issues: Dash pixels (common), rusted hydraulic line, broken front spring, stuck sunroof and nasty body rust.

  • My luxury SUV sedan - 2001 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Simply put this car has power and handle in the worst weather condition! Its almost unreal how well it got through snow, rain, etc in the Northeast (Boston). It also carries the legend of the three pointed star ( great ride, comfort, dependability, room, etc ). Im glad I didnt go the ML route and the G wagon just isnt my cup of tea. The e430 4matic is all the 4 wheel drive I need. My family loves it. I highly reccomend the Starmark warranty because you will want to keep this one for a long time. The A6 4.2 or older A8 AUDI is not even close to this one. If you need a awd sedan youll now what Im talking about.

Just traded my 01 E320 4M with 118,600 kms for a 2006 Lexus GS300. I bought the E with 80,000 kms on it and a vibration cropped up between 60 kmph and 80kmph daily until it warmed up. Not tires, but a known problem with MB and they say it cant be fixed at London ON MB. Also 2 front fenders rusting through along with bottom of the doors,my problem not MBs, and various suspension issues. CD changer and audio system was all fuzzy sounding and the drivers chair creaked like an old lazyboy. Service got expensive and it was just time to let it go. It was disappointing because we thought we would have many years of service from this car but we became afraid that it would end up being worthless.

  • My Last Mercedes - 2001 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I have had more problems with this car in 3 years than all 3 of my last Fords combined. The short list of problems. The remote fails to unlock or lock the car frequently. I need to carry 2 keys. The heater and AC does no work properly. Dealer can not fix. Dashboard light burned out. Brakes last only 8,000 miles. Radio does not turn on all the time. Car does not go ino gear.

I thoroughly enjoy this vehicle, the ride is quiet and comfortable. The cabin is egonomically designed for easy access to every appointment. The vehicle without doubt is built to exacting specifications. The bose sound system is without equal, and makes the vehicle a pleasure to drive. The only question I is the transmission which seems a little quirky at times, perhaps its my first experience with a Mercedes that causes this concern.

  • The AMG... - 2001 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

great low-end power; good brakes; excellent luxury cruiser; plenty of space for 4-5 passengers; a bit heavy on turns (going 60+ mph :)); would purchase again!
