Overview & Reviews
Lexus continues to change gears, moving away from single-minded relentless pursuits of perfection to chase performance. The new IS 300, complete with rear-wheel drive and a 215-horse inline six, chases the BMW 3 Series in the entry luxury sport marketplace, and will continue to do so until a proper manual transmission is available.
- Near ideal weight distribution, slick interior decor, competitive pricing.
- No manual transmission, small rear seat, lacking a telescoping steering column.

Good but needs improvements - 2001 Lexus IS 300
By Dude007 - December 27 - 10:00 amLove its sleeky look, handling and interior of course. Engine needs to be replaced with something better. Wasnt the toyota all about reliability, quality and economy? Well Im a Honda lover but this car cought my attention right from the begining, basically I love eveything about it except gas mileage. This car has a worst gas mileage in its class and if you compare it to the performance it really shouldnt burn so much. Even Maxima with 3.5 Liter engine uses less gas and gets far better performance and really Maxima seems to be a better bang for your buck.

IS 300 PERFORMS - 2001 Lexus IS 300
By rebelrichey - August 15 - 10:00 amHandles exceptionally well - low and tight to the ground. This car is not lacking any power. It is sleek, comfortable and overall - attractive on the road. If comparing a BMW 3 series, Jag X-Type or MBZ - you may want to test IS 300 Lexus. You will find it out performs and has a stronger maintenance record!

BEST CAR EVER! - 2001 Lexus IS 300
By jbneurotech - April 27 - 9:34 pmPurchased the car with 19,000 miles in 2002 i commute over 100 miles a day to work and back and the car now has 243000 miles on it and has never given me any problems all i have done has chaged the oil and filters still has original timing belt and plugs have them checked often and mechanic states they still look fine this inline six motor is unstoppable my wife drives an 07 is250 and it has been in for repair atleast 5 times and only has 70000 miles the V6 motor in the 250 is no comparison to the inline 6 in the 300, also my car doesnt use one drop of oil and still has the same torquey power as the day i bought i would by another in a heartbeat this is truly a rare gem.

BMW look out! - 2001 Lexus IS 300
By spyderman4774 - April 10 - 2:00 amI bought the IS used four months ago and must say I am completely satisfied. I moved up from a Miata and feared I might be sacrificing some of the superior hadling of the roadster in exchange for some additional interior/cargo space. I was wrong! The IS 300 handles wonderfully with the 17" wheels. The torque of the inline 6 is unbelievable. Dealer service has been excellent. The downside to the 2001, is the lack of a front armrest and no folding backseat.

IS300 Awesome, But Can Always Be Better - 2001 Lexus IS 300
By bbc_teryou - September 28 - 10:26 pmIf you are looking for a fun and good looking vehicle, the IS300 should do it! It attracts a lot of attention. It seems as though all eyes are on the Lexus IS300, rather than the average BMW 3-Series, Mercedes Benz C- Class or Audi A4. 2001 models do not offer the 5 spd manual, DVD or auto-dimming rear view mirrors. If you can do without that, youre set.

IS300 Perfection - 2001 Lexus IS 300
By mr magoo - July 14 - 2:00 amThis is the best vehicle I have ever owned and with the exception of a 2001 GS430, the best vehicle I have ever driven. I would recommend this car to any one who desires the perfect blend of aggressive styling, handling, performance, and class. This car is definitly a Luxury Sport Coupe.
