nice suv - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By bassraider - November 5 - 12:16 amBought this car when my 97 S-10 was t-boned in an accident. It has been nothing but reliable and cheap to own. I have taken it on many long distance trips and it has been reasonably comfortable. The only gripes I have are the combo purse/cheap plastic center console arm rest that broke in the first month of owning it, and the rear wiper which never worked reliably (but who needs one anyways). As for the complaints about the rough ride, it is a truck and it has a VERY short wheelbase which combined together make for a very bumpy ride, needless to say if you dont want a bumpy ride get the four door version and say hi to the rest of the soccer moms for me.

Awesome SUV - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By Brando - November 2 - 3:56 amIve had this truck for 4 1/2 years and its been flawless. I used to be a diehard GM customer but my last 2 vehicles have been Fords and I have been very happy with them. Its unfortunate that Ford discontinued the Sport since it was the perfect size for someone without kids. The reliability has been excellent and I still love the looks of it as much as when I bought it.

Its A Truck - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By VoiceOfReason - August 19 - 3:46 pmI was bored here at work, so I read through the last 7 pages of reviews. While most people were positive, I had problems with several of the reviews. It seems like some people forget that this is a TRUCK. Its not supposed to ride like a car. It has enough power to plow through the snow here in Jersey, and is comfortable enough for me to drive the 300 miles it takes to get me to my parents house. Although the gas mileage is horrendous, what do you expect, its a TRUCK. I had a 1000 watt power inverter installed to make it the perfect tailgating accessory for Eagles games. Overall, I love this TRUCK.

A Timex Truck - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By Rrockindrummer - August 18 - 3:16 amI bought this truck as a certified 5 year ago with 15K miles. I now have 78K miles, and have not had any major repairs. 1 fuel sensor recall, and replaced the rear pinion seal. Im only on my second set of tires, and I get about 20-24 MPG. (depending on how I drive) it handles very well in the winter, and can take just about anything you through at it. It is a perfect car for younger drivers

New Ford purchase - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By PFP - May 9 - 2:53 pmThis is this first US auto purchase in over several years. Tranisisition from a Japanese SUV , has been an extremly pleasant experience to date (approx 8K mileage)on the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. The ride quality and reliability has been most favorable and would only improve the current MPS, which aligns with other SUVs in its class (avr. 16 MPG)

Fun While It Lasted - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By M4NU3L - February 6 - 9:00 amI bought this car as a daily driver with 110,000 miles on it. It was fun at first. Had no problems the first three weeks, then the problems began. I did a complete tune up to the vehicle and I was still only getting 11 MPG. After all the maintenance was up to date, the check engine light came on a day later. After a compression check I found out the valves were sticking and the heads needed to be replaced, an expensive fix. Then a day later the front wheels started shaking really bad and the rear differential was giving off a high pitched whine. After taking it to a mechanic I found out the 4 front balljoints and 2 A-arms had to be replaced. BUY WITH CAUTION.

Good value for SUV - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By benny981 - December 8 - 10:00 amLooked at other smaller SUV like the Pathfinder and 4Runner. Based on performance/price. The smaller Explorer is a much better value if this is a used as a second car and you already have a Minivan or something else that will seat seven. As far as reliability, you may use the money you saved on the purchase to but an extended warranty (just in case). The Pathfinder with similar options is low-mid 30s., The 4Runner is a little lower, but at 183 HP and lower tourque, its a no-brainer. Im happy with my choice and I saved at least 7-8K on the purchase price.

Think Twice - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By RMCass - October 25 - 2:00 amMy husband and I purchased the SUV in March 2001. We previously owned a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. We decided to opt for a smaller SUV. Now, one year later, it has approximately 12000 miles on it and, basically, the truck is falling apart. The rear wiper works when it decides it wants to work, the interior control buttons for the windows, etc. are falling off, falling through the holes amd the car is already starting to stall at only a year old. The handling on it is horrible - when you hit a bump or pothole, the whole tale end "skips". Basically, the truck fish-tails when you hit a bump or pothole doing more than 20 MPH.

Explorer Sport: A Great Truck - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By scotty M. - August 26 - 2:00 amThe 2001 Eplorer Sport is a great truck, the new design makes it stand out and I really like the look of the flares, it gives it a more bulky look. The interior is really nice, except one flaw, the door handles are easliy scrathed and the paint flakes off the plastic.

Best Little SUV Ever - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
By FORDMAN - August 18 - 1:23 amIve owned my 2001 Explorer sport since 2003 when I was in college. Since then Ive clocked more than 100000 miles in it. Aside from a trip to the dealer for a bad air flow sensor shes been good to me. Never let me down, always started, still runs like a champ. I love the interior layout, while small I always seem to find room for what Im hauling when I lay the seats flat. Sadly I will soon have to part with her as Im about to have a baby and will need to upgrade to another Explorer (this time the sport trac) to have 4 doors to fit the baby.
