Great Truck. I drive a good number of miles a year and I’m very pleased with this truck. I believe that the 2WD has a much smoother ride that the Z71 (4WD), and since I have little use of the 4WD, that was an easy choice. The 5.3 L V8 has more than enough power to jump up and pass a truck on a two lane road. The heated, leather, power everything seats also are nice. I put a K&N air filter in it the first week I bought it and run Castrol Syntec 20W-50 year round. I have had no problems.

I purchased an 01 LT Ext. Cab SB Z71 new in May of 01, just prior to the intro of OnStar as std. on the LT trim. Its style, size, and feel are "just right" to me when compared to the 01 Ram and 01 Ford. There are a few squeaks over bumps when its cold (50F or below), but nothing out of the ordinary. Plenty of power from the 5.3L, but you need to bury your foot to find it. Blame the over- conservative tranny programming GM provides and get something like the Hypertech PowerProgrammer to "fix" it. Great in snow, but the ABS is a little too sensitive. Either add weight to the bed (300lbs or so) or see if a dealer will adjust it.

  • 1st To 2nd Gear BUcking Transmission - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This truck would shift with a series of distinct bumps, as many as three, on the automatic shift from 1st to 2nd gear. The dealer could not fix the problem so I went through the Florida Lemon Law process. The final arbitration decision was that the shifting problem had no "significant safety of monetary impact on the vehicle" therefore my request for replacement was "DENIED". Chevy, with the Arbitrators concurance, said that the bumping shift was a normal feature for this vehicle. BUYER BEWARE!

After about 36000 the transmission will start slipping and goes out. The 96 mph governor also puts a damper on freeway passing

I BOUGHT USED WITH 15K ON THE CLOCK. NO PROBLEMS EXCEPT FOR A TICKING NOISE ON ACCELERATION, NOT COLD START KNOCK SOME TALK ABOUT. THE DEALER TRIED TO FIX THE NOISE BY REPLACING SENSORS BUT NO LUCK. GM TOLD ME IT IS A NORMAL NOISE DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE PISTONS WHICH HAVE A SHORT SKIRT TO HAVE LESS MASS THEREFORE BETTER GAS MILEAGE. THEY TOLD MR TO PUT MY MIND AT EASE, THEY WOULD GIVE ME AN EXTENDED 6 YR/100K WARRANTY ON THE ENTIRE ENGINE. I HAVE THIS IN WRITING PLUS IT IS TRANSFERRABLE. I MUST SAY THE TICK NOISE DOES NOT AFFECT ANYTHING, AT LEAST NOW. i HAVE 27K ON IT NOW.

  • Love My Chevy - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I had a 1996 chevrolet Extended cab and I loved it! We traded it in in 2001 February for a 2001 Dodge Durango! Boy what a mistake that was! I hated the Durango! I loved the room, but the insurance, the gas mileage and the fact that from June until August it was in the shop for A/C repairs we decided that we should go back to Chevy! We would have never gotten rid of the 96, except we needed the 4 doors! Wow What a trip! I love the 01 truck! Could not be happier!

  • Awesome truck! - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

First off, it is a 2001 silverado 1500 LT extended cab 4 door Z71 with Onstar. We bought this truck used at 176K miles and have since put it 10,000 miles on it. It is real comfortable and fun to drive and it has plenty of power. I put some 33 inch maxxis bigohrn tires on it and it went to 10-12 mpg which really sucks down the gas. However, the 4wd system is great for offroading. Only had some minor stuff to replace like the universal and the brakes. The truck can be easily modded to make it look and perform better, which is a plus. I plan on keeping this truck for as long as possible, and i am confident that it will keep performing

I have had this truck for about 5 months and I have never had a problem with it. Treat it well and it will serve you well.

I bought a 2001 shortbed stepside and have not had one bit of trouble. It rides great and is the most comfortable truck I have ever owned. It has the v-6 engine. It runs great but could be a little faster on acceleration. My only complaint is the factory sound system is junk. Overall a great truck!
