This Year's Model Updates:

After a complete redesign last year, few changes make news for 2000. Most substantial is the addition of an optional fourth access door to extended cab models. The already potent Vortec 4800 and 5300 V8 engines make more power, and programmable door locks can be instructed to unlock automatically when the Silverado is shut off. A Sportside cargo box is available on 1500 LT models, and 1500 4WD trucks can be equipped with wheel flares this year. LS and LT trucks get a standard electrochromic self-dimming rearview mirror with compass and exterior temperature display, and a soft tonneau cover is available from the factory.

Pros:
  • Fourth-door access standard on extended cab models, strong 4800 and 5300 V8 engines, programmable power door locks, disc brakes at all four corners.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

This was my very first new truck purchase.I ordered it in dec. 2001and got it in mar.It was exactly what Iwanted and very sharp looking.Had one small problem, it liked oil;and lots of it.Used 2 qts the first 1200 miles then 1 qt every 1000 miles. The dealership finally changed the pcv and that has stopped the consumption. Also had to have the rear springs replaced.

  • I love my Chevy - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

i bought my Chevy in May 05 with 125,600 miles on it. It now has 140,000 on it. Let me just start by saying that this is an awesome truck, and I get compliments on it all the time. It might not sound like it after you read this, but it is very reliable. One thing I would say needs to be taken care of is the fuel sending unit. It was done at 110,000 and then I had to do it again at 135,000... not cool. The part alone is $400. One day #1 on my A/C fan stopped working, next day, #2 stopped. so its Off, or 3, which is too much, such a pain. Power steering pump went the same day as fuel pump #2, at 135K.

I have a rare Z71 with 5sp manual, 4.8 and manual transfer case. Very tight well built truck. Never been to the dealer yet after 2.5 years. Get 20+ MPG at 75mph. Plenty of power at 4800ft alt. Very roomy cab and the only bad thing Ill say is the firestone tires are not very good. Id buy again! The last 2 fords were in the shop atleast 30 days the first year.

This truck has performed great in the 65,000 miles that I have owned it. I have had to replace two things on this truck so far (excluding brakes, filters, etc.). At 36,000 miles, the rear universal joint went out, but this was most likely due to the fact that I drive on the interstate 80% of the time and run over 90mph nearly all the time, just below the cutoff point on the engine. At 72,000 miles the fuel pump went out. This also may be attributed to my habits, as I usually let the fuel light come on and stay on a while before re-fueling. Ive been told this is extremely hard on the fuel pump because it sucks in air. Other than that, no problems.

  • My Y2K truck after 37K miles - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

It has been 3 years now that I have owned my truck and it has held up very well. I have customized it and pumped a bit more power out of that 4.8L V8. It definately has some kick to it. Nothing has been wrong with it after 3 years and 37K miles. This is a great truck. I will keep it for a few more years.

I was very excited to purchase a truck that was suppose to be reliable and tough. True story....within 5 minutes of leaving the lot the gas probe was faulty, the driver side power window regulator cable snapped, and the glove compartment fell right off the dashboard when opened. It was test drove by the way. I called and in typical American dealership fashion, "sorry all sales are final"......I was thinking more of "wow really, well see what we can do since you just spent 1,000s of dollars with us". Its completely turned me off to American cars/trucks in general now because of the terrible service I received. I now have to replace the transmission, only 90K miles on it. JUNKY DONT BUY

  • Happy With My 100k Truck - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

No major problems at 101,xxx miles. Doesnt burn oil, but did develope the cold start tick at 24,000 mile. Switched to synthetic blend. Also I have a whistling sound coming from the tank area, but told if it turns out to be the fuel pump it would be replaced for free. this problem came while still under factory warranty, but its still driving 75k miles later. Still using factory brakes, but will replace soon.

  • Much Satisfied - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Great Truck. Driven many others at I would take this one every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Plenty of Muscle as well. If you put about a grand into the 5.3 engine you will be smoking Ford Lightings in no time.

This is our first extended cab long bed truck and wow, drives like a Cadillac, so powerfull and smooth, we just love it. And the 8ft bed is so useful and the best MPG ive ever had in a V8 truck. 5.3 V8 has more than enough power (but im still gonna add some tuning goodies, lol) Interior is more like a luxury car leather, power heated seats, lumbar support, excellent driving postion. I ve been driving Chevys for years and this is the best ever. Get the LT its got every bell or whistle youll ever need and a few you dont, but its nice to have them anyway.
