Overview & Reviews
The T6 model and its turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine have been deleted from the Volvo XC90 lineup for 2006. A new computer-controlled all-wheel-drive system debuts as does a new optional 18-inch wheel design. New SAE testing procedures have dropped the horsepower rating on the V8 engine from 315 to 311. Midway through the model year, Volvo introduces a sailing-inspired Ocean Race Edition V8 model, which provides upgraded trim inside and out.
- Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, solid performance from V8 model, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
- Third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

Great SUV - 2006 Volvo XC90
By Jon - February 15 - 4:26 amI just purchased my XC 90 and so far really like it. I am 64 and looked at all SUVs. I wanted the Highlander until I drove it, I love Toyota but my leg continuously went to sleep. We have a 95 850 which has been a great car. This SUV will fit those of you that are tall and short (wife is 52). I had a V8 truck and went to the smaller motor and really like it

Love the car, Hate the tires! - 2006 Volvo XC90
By jfd - December 11 - 5:33 amMy husband surprised me with this car for Christmas. I love it and I love all the safety features for it. However, when I hit 10,000 miles my tires started making noises and after 3 trips to the dealer, they told me it was the Pirelli tires and they have had problems with them. I would recommend the car but not the tires. Also, if you have two carseats in the car then it is impossible for an adult to get to the third row without climbing over seats. I agree that the inside door handles should not be plastic.

Excellent car - 2006 Volvo XC90
By Wally - December 8 - 3:23 amAn excellent car, firm ride. You have the feeling of being in a safe car. Goes through snow with ease. Very good handling. I recommend this car to anyone who wants a safe car. Gas mileage is a bit off and the gas tank is relatively small for a car of this size.

exactly what I expected - 2006 Volvo XC90
By kevin - December 2 - 9:23 amDealer service not the greatest, but its not the cars fault. You dont have to fight the car at any time, you dont realize it weighs 4000+ pounds. Very solid but smooth feel, I think tire life will suffer. Reputation of longevity was deciding factor, I avg.18,000 - 22,000 miles per year.

Not that great - 2006 Volvo XC90
By jeff - September 24 - 1:43 pmWeve had to bring out car in several times already and its 4 months old. The heat was blowing hot and cold air which turned out to be a software problem. It was also making a very annoying whirring noise, which we were told was normal for rack and pinion steering. It finally went away after our last visit to the shop. Gas mileage is poor. Design on some of the dials arent to great since they have little faint light indcators which are impossible to read in the sun(the fan level indicator, e.g.) The trunk unlock feature is annoying, you cant just pop the trunk.

DONT buy a Volvo - 2006 Volvo XC90
By teddym - September 2 - 4:04 pmMy XC-90 is horrible, front to back. Friends dont let friends buy volvos. Treatment from the volvo dealerships in Houston is horrible, unless you are super rich, they will certainly hook you up, otherwise, bring your checkbook. You pay out the nose to own a volvo. My xc-90? 3 sets of wheel bearings burned out, the rear end went out, the fuel pump has already been replaced, the CURRENT check engine light issue will cost me $1,000, just put $1,500 into it to get the steering column to work again, the Houston dealership seriously jacked me over. you HAVE to take it to the dealership. They know theyve got you by the throat. OBTW, my windshield leaks. Headlights fogged from inside. $500 each

Very Happy with my XC90 - 2006 Volvo XC90
By Holly - August 31 - 4:10 pmI bought this car used in Nov of 2008 and have had it for almost a year and a half. I have not had one problem with this car. I am very pleased with the performance. The gas mileage could be better but i knew that going in. The interior does not have enough space for all my stuff but I manage. I really love driving this car and feel very safe in it.

geatest suv - 2006 Volvo XC90
By eee - July 18 - 8:30 amEverything is great about this car. The only thing that I would change is better instrument lighting and more electronic gadgets like an Audi or BMW. Kind of boring in that sense. Solid vault like doors.

V8 loaded & love it! - 2006 Volvo XC90
By Ski - July 9 - 5:20 pm110k mi & still drives fantastic! Smooth, powerful, tight handling & fun to drive. Happy with whole drivetrain. Only problem so far was the "infotainment software bug," which was fixed with quick update @ dealer. DONT get turbo model with "garbage" GM transmission. The V8s avg 1mpg gas penalty is worth every drop! 05+ Yamaha V8 model has better Aisan Warner 6-speed & nice AWD system. Did i mention the significant testicular fortitude?

Volvo XC90 - 2006 Volvo XC90
By Jeannie - July 6 - 6:53 pmMy Volvo XC90 is my new favorite automobile. I am a very particular consumer who spends a great deal of time researching before buying a new auto. This vehicle has been my most satisfying purchase yet. I may never leave Volvo if they keep making this vehicle! It is everything a professional mom could want...both sexy and safe! I am considering a volvo for my son when he gets his lisence soon.
