Luv it and leave it ! - 2000 Volvo S80
By Mark - June 10 - 8:10 pmEnjoy driving my S-80 but beginning at 55K miles repairs have been constant. Now have 100 and have to sell because it is costing me $1000 per quarter for repairs. The mechanic said that the items needing to be fixed are not common problems. Great. I cant wait until the common problems occur. I hate the idea of selling but my comfortable car is no longer dependable. If dependability could be improved, I would buy another one. i.e. wheel hub $700, throttle $1200 a/c next last 4 months in repair. Sorry Volvo.

Awesome car with a few trips for repairs - 2000 Volvo S80
By pmerch - May 24 - 11:40 amThis car is very powerful and performs excellent. I purchased this used a few years ago with 85k miles. The issue has been the repairs such as suspension and the throttle body but that was covered from a recall. I must say its a comfortable car and looks great but it makes me nervous that a very costly repair is about to happen in the near future. Replacing the timing belt was not too expensive though and I recommend going to an independent shop unless you like to pay double the price and that can add up since this car goes in the shop every three months!

A lot of hype - 2000 Volvo S80
By judy spiegel - February 28 - 10:00 amHad problems from Day 1. My first S80 T6 had to be shipped back to Sweden for diagnosis. On the replacement, the sight lines are so bad that these are dangerous; there is not a blind "spot," there is a right blind side. Transmission doesnt always shift properly; it sometimes reverses when it says "drive," parks when it says "reverse," etc. And the car shakes when one goes from 0 to 5 on a dry surface! (Like pulling out of a red light.) The doors do not close tightly. All in all, a lot of hype.

Should be as reliable as Volvo used to be - 2000 Volvo S80
By Jimmy - February 27 - 6:30 amI purchased this car with 54k on it, mostly for volvo reputation of durability and reliability (not any more). I have to change the power steering rack ($900) Cooling fan (before they make a recall). Every visit to volvo dealer is like going to HELL, they charge you for the aire you breath. Every thing typically cost you 10 times compared to the same issue in an american or Japanese car. I am already looking for either Honda or Toyota.

A Little Disappointed - 2000 Volvo S80
By LGC - June 17 - 10:00 amCar has been in the shop over 11 times in the year that I have had it. Little things, nothing real serious. Steering, vibrations, suspension. I will probably buy a BMW next.

Overall good ownership experience - 2000 Volvo S80
By DaveF - May 30 - 2:00 amGenerally a pleasure to own (lease) and drive. Dependable all-weather vehicle. Love the twin turbos, combined w/ an excellent manual gear selection mode. Exterior styling, as well as the quality of paint/trim, is excellent. Interior fit/finish is just o.k. Disappointed by fake wood molding & squeeky interior panels.

Has the worst interior! - 2000 Volvo S80
By msC - May 6 - 3:43 amI agree with previous reviews about the maintenance, every time I took it for maintenance was $300 or more. The leather has cracked and the door and window panels has totally come apart. Had window tint done at dealership it literally shrunk, they guaranteed it but when went to dealer, states they dont used that company any more and I need to find someone to replace it.

Great Power but Poor Reliability - 2000 Volvo S80
By FirstVolvo LastVolvo - February 23 - 10:00 amWhen Consumer Reports notes that this is one of the poorest used car buys, listen to them. It is an incredible car in its interior quality, power, and road handling; but the fun stops there. I have spent so much time in the dealership with the front suspension, climate control, engine and transmission issues that it is on the rack more than the road. The vehicle reliability is incredibly disappointing and you should really think twice before buying. Between the poor dealer service and the dismal quality and reliability, I will never buy another Volvo. For the same money elsewhere you can get so much more.

Scrap at 75,000 miles - 2000 Volvo S80
By r_brian - October 14 - 9:50 amFront a arms replaced, timing belt, and now the fly wheel became toothless. Two thousand to fix this item and the value of these cars is gone.
