I think I like this car??? - 2000 Volvo S80
By Tlover - December 24 - 4:20 amOk, so after being in a bad accident I found this car and LOVED how it drove. This car did leave me stranded on a roadtrip, which was the result of a blown transmission....that cost a fortune! Other than the tranny disaster, I must say the car has actually been a pretty great car. It rides very smooth and is freakin fast! I have smoked many Bimmers and Audis in this. Tiptronic is alot of fun. Front end assembly seems to have alot of problems too. Overall I think I still do like this car. Currently has 95k miles

quality of plastic parts is very poor - 2000 Volvo S80
By rosarockville - May 5 - 3:40 pmAgreed with other review that after 5 yrs the parts started falling apart. The repair labor charge is awfully high. Even one $50 plastic parts would need 6 to 8 hours labor to replace it. The dealer claimed that those parts are very difficult to reach. I like my volvo car but the repairing charges definitively will make me re-consider for having Volvo for my next car. Now, every time, I can not have my car back from the shop without paying $1300 - $2300. They just told me the oil trap needs to be replaced which got replaced 2 yrs ago, and it costs a little more than $1000.

Emissions Frustration-S80 T-6 - 2000 Volvo S80
By WoodyTBuckeye - April 10 - 2:00 amBought vehicle with 27k-extended warranty. Approx 53k miles, started having emissions messages ie "system urgent" and hazard light and the engine went into a "idle" mode. Replaced throttle control mechanism, software upgrade,and other related emission parts. After spending close to $900 on the throttle, 3 days later, replaced 1 of the 2 back O2 sensors.($363) One week later, the other back O2 went- $256. I understand under the new warranty, this is a covered item. I am probably getting rid of the car though I love driving it. Total spent=$2k. I will probably buy a new one but will read the fine print on the warranty. PW

Ahhh Volvo - 2000 Volvo S80
By Bizcocxito - April 3 - 2:00 amYou really cant argue with one of the safest and most stylish cars on the road. The mass (esp. in comparison to my previous car - petite lil Toyota Corolla) takes some getting used to, but every safe and reliable minute in the S80 has been fabulous.

Not bad, but would not buy another one - 2000 Volvo S80
By Scott C - January 31 - 2:00 amMy S80 T6 has not had many problems. A steering recall, and replacement CD/Radio has been all. I put in synthetic oil on a regular basis and rarely take it to the dealer. When you pull the radio to fix a stuck CD, you have to get the air bag service light reset - can not do this normally. This has always been a pain at the dealer. Although I have not had problems, I count my blessings as others have. With 50K miles + on my car, the car seems "loose", as panels shake regularily. Trunk space is great, it fits 4 people well, but there must be better cars out there for $40K (2000 price). I have no real issues, but would not buy another S80.

Almost nearly - 2000 Volvo S80
By CRITIC - December 8 - 10:00 amHave owned one Porsche, two BMWs, one Mercedes, and now two VOLVOs. I have enjoyed driving this S80 as much as any owned except the Porsche. I bought the S80 because of looks,room,perfomance, and reliability of the previous VOLVO 850. Everything as expected EXCEPT reliability. ELectrical problems, front suspension, transmission,A/C,power window, radio, brakes. This car is maintenance intensive and it is a shame because when everything is working correctly it is a great car. Won,t own another

Some flaws, and not again - 2000 Volvo S80
By FirstS80T6 - November 12 - 2:00 amI have several complaints about this car. First of all, the 17-inch upgraded tires are not suitable for any winter driving in the Northeast. I learned this the hard way. Second, driving with the windows and sunroof open will cause the rear view mirror to shake very violently at 60mph. Third, maintenance and autobody works are extremely expensive. It costs me over $700 to replace a cracked headlight! Routine maintenance services were over $200 each visit. Fourth, the suspension and the steering are too soft for my liking. Last, the visibility is very poor. For the amount of money, it is not worth it, and I will definitely not buy the S80 again.

Last Volvo for Me - 2000 Volvo S80
By readytotrade - September 2 - 2:00 amMany, many problems with this car. Fan,throttle,suspension,electronics,oil leaks,cd player,emission control system,squeaks & rattles. Overall very poor quality. Fortunately I bought extended warranty--has returned money threefold.

S80 T6 after four years: Still happy - 2000 Volvo S80
By jarchdeacon - July 4 - 10:00 amOur 2000 S80 T6 has over 70,000 miles and still feels and drives like a new car. Im very pleased with this car. Note that I did purchase the extended warranty (up to 100K miles) from Volvo which turned out to be a good idea (it has paid for itself). After the 50,000 mile warranty expired, Ive had to replace some DSTC parts, NAV system parts, and so on) all of which were adequately covered by the Volvo VIP plan. I will consider another S80 purchase in the future.

Wish wed read the reviews first - 2000 Volvo S80
By Mrs. D - April 14 - 10:50 amLoved the car overall but our 94 Jeep Cherokee with 230k miles is more dependable. After several repairs of one kind or another, she started hesitating. Trusted mechanic said it was throttle body covered by extended warranty so take it to them for free replacement. Local dealer charged $100 for diagnostic and said it needed $3000 head gasket. Not so local dealer charged $100 for diagnostic and said it needed a $2300 head gasket. Car currently sitting at trusted mechanics lot waiting for retired Volvo mechanic who agrees its the throttle body to come fix it. Its been 5 months. Tomorrow were buying a Lexus.
