This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, Volkswagen had planned on introducing a new 3.6-liter V6 engine and bringing back the diesel-fueled V10. However, the V6 has been shelved until next year's model, and the V10 will debut very late in 2006. Therefore, the only significant change to the Volkswagen Touareg is the addition of a new rearview camera feature and auxiliary multimedia connector to the optional navigation package.

Pros:
  • Upscale interior, polished road manners, true off-road capability, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
Cons:
  • Lousy fuel economy, smaller backseat than competitors, no in-dash CD changer.

  • Best SUV Out There! - 2006 Volkswagen Touareg

The 2006 Volkswagen Touareg V6 has a great ride on city roads and highways. It handles like a car. Its very comfortable for long trips. I havent taken it off road, but I cant wait to see what this baby can do. It also has more cargo space than its competitors! I love its design, this SUV definitely stands out from the rest, its great vehicle.

  • Very Nice Vehicle - 2006 Volkswagen Touareg

This SUV really drives like a car until the weather gets bad and then it drives like a very good SUV. The good comments about how the Touareg handles are not overstating it. I use a hitch mounted bike rack to haul bikes around and the Touareg works great for that. I dont have to worry about how primitive the trailheads will be.

  • Stung by the pollen filters and drowning in water - 2006 Volkswagen Touareg
    By -

Its like a death. Or a... divorce maybe? You love your vehicle and then you find out it was all a lie. Beware of the pollen filters! They have a design flaw and they clog so ... when you drive in rain the water will get trapped in your footwell. This is true if you own a Passat or Jetta. They have the same problem. In the Touareg it will cost you 6 grand and that will not be the end of your problem. VW has been aware of the flaw... sued in the New Jersey courts . Google to read lawsuit. Once the water has destroyed your AWD module and started to rust your car and mold begins to grow... your car is really worthless trying to sell it. VW does NOT care about its customers. DO NOT BUY VWs!

  • Beware of Problems - 2006 Volkswagen Touareg

I have had two Volkswagen Touaregs and had nothing but headaches. VW doesnt want to deal with many of the ongoing issues and they eventually refunded my payments and took back the vehicles. The truck is beautiful until you have your FIRST problem. Then, run!

  • The Amazing V10 Diesel - 2006 Volkswagen Touareg
    By -

I had a 2004 Touareg V8 before this one and it had a lot of electrical problems. Replaced it with the V10 and couldnt be happier, one of the best vehicles I have owned. It has amazing performance, gets very good fuel economy considering its weight and size and will tow over 7700 lbs. Havent had any problems with it, just normal maintenance, which isnt cheap but I have a prepaid maint. plan. It does eat up tires but havent had to replace the brakes (30k miles).

  • Fear and Loathing - 2006 Volkswagen Touareg

I bought a 2005 Touareg without researching after my first test drive. Nine days later, in the shop, I was given a loaner, and 30 days later a new 2006 model! The 2006 is a big improvement, fun to drive, and very comfortable. Its gas milage is horrible, but shes pretty. I wont buy another, but as long as she runs Ill realy enjoy her.

  • Best SUV on the road 4 the money - 2006 Volkswagen Touareg

Bought this V6 2006 for $35,000 year end special. Ride is so smooth you can fall asleep. Im 64 there is lots of room. If you drive with a light foot you can get 24 mpg on the highway. Sharp looking, handles the road like a sports car. Anyone I give a ride to says its the nicest SUV they have ever been in. GREAT SMOOTH ride, AWD keeps it on the road in rain or snow.

  • This SUV Deserves Much Better - 2006 Volkswagen Touareg
    By -

This car deserves much better reviews from the so-called experts. I find it to be an ideal size, easy to get in and out, nothing rattles, the tolerances in the body work are amazingly tight, and the paintwork is flawless. Also the chrome, beautiful wheels and an interior matche Mercedes-Benz any time. The list of standard equipment is comprehensive, you hardly need anything else. Off-Road work on our ranches is no problem at all, with high and low 4wheel drive and locked differentials and on road driving is a pleasure.

  • VW - No Longer the Peoples Car - 2006 Volkswagen Touareg
    By -

In my opinion, its a good looking vehicle but not well thought out. To replace the battery, you must remove the drivers seat and controls. The spare tire is not inflated. It has a 12v air pump to assist you, only if you do not have a dead battery. The rear seats must have the head rests removed in order to be lowered. The rain sensing wipers have a mind of their own and run randomly. The exterior paint is VERY soft. Just the slightest brush against it and it scratches. The tires are worn out at 20,000 miles. The dealer says Im lucky. Most fail earlier. Parts fall off! A cover for the rear wiper and one of the VW emblems just fell off. This was not covered under warranty.

  • Jeep Driver, Loves New Touareg! - 2006 Volkswagen Touareg

Ive had my 06 Volkswagen Touareg V8 about a month and love it. I originaly was going for a V6, a quick ride in the V8 however had me sold. It is smooth and fast. All the comforts I expected from the first look. I like technical stuff and this car is loaded, except for the navigation system. Every few days I find some cool new feature (like the wine cooler glv box). I highly recommend reading the manual as there are many things you need to know to get the full value of the car as well as prcautions, like; dont keep the power steering fully turned for more than five seconds. Driving on mountain roads is a dream, it sticks like glue. It is so smooth that under 25 mph you dont even feel like your moving. Use care approaching stop signs ;)
