  • Great ar for a suddenly single guy - 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan

Great looking, great to drive, nice feel on the road. The interior is a couple of steps above the cars in its class like the Honda CRV or Toyota Rav4, very rich feel in fit and finish. I really like the black exterior with the black/charcoal interior It adds a touch of masculinity to the car, there is just enough satin chrome to offset all the black. Performance is far better than I expected, the turbo really adds to the acceleration and feeling of power when you drop the accelerator, very minimal turbo lag, sport mode is really fun and it gets you moving beyond highway speed limits very quick. The only minor issue that has taken some getting used to is the way the vehicle shifts going up and down steep hills, it just seems to take forever to shift when going up and downshifts a bit too quickly when going down. I am very pleased I chose the R Line, I like the sport package with the larger wheels, low profile tires and trim. I just didnt need the sunroof, navigation or some of the other options that the SE and SEL offered at a much higher price. For me this was the right choice 6 months of ownership and in the middle of a New England winter. The R line is a great looking and a great performing car, the low profile tires and 19 inch wheels look great but while they work ok with the 4 motion drive they arent the best performing combination for deep snow. A narrower tire and wheel would work much better. That being said, I still would not trade the R line for a SE or SEL. 6 months later and I still love the car.

This is a small German SUV. It is also the basis for other VW family models. Wonderful German feel and luxury while not breaking the bank. The 2016 model has many features standard that were available on high end models before. While the Tiguan doesnt have many gadgets it is a very capable vehicle. We looked at others and it came down to the Mazda CX-5 and Tiguan. We bought the Tiguan and are thrilled with it. We have owned a Nissan Rogue but I would say the VW is a better vehicle for the same money. The vehicle has a lot of value and should be explored especially for those people not looking for what everyone else is driving.

Great car, this car does require premium gas and is slightly more in repairs but well worth the money.

We presently own two NMS Passat TDIs. Well turn in our SE and keep the SEL due to Dieselgate. Allow me to make a fair comparison... Tiguan is a different vehicle than Passat but very much the same in many ways. Tiguan is smaller than the NMS and the gas engine doesnt readily compare with the TDI. That said, Tiguan is a VERY nice, though pricey, vehicle. Interior room is fairly small, but anyone complaining should have noted this before buying. Over the road economy seems to hover at about 26 mpg while our TDIs push well over 40 mpg. Tiguan has less bells and whistles than the competition and compares favorably with the NMS SEL.. Not a bad thing really as most of the lauded innovations on other vehicles are more of a distraction than of benefit. Comfort, handling, and overall quality is superior to the competition in my opinion. So far 1600 miles without a single complaint. Bang for the buck? Probably NOT a bargain if you like Toyota, Kia, Ford, or Honda and others. On the other hand a real bargain when compared to the Audi or MB offerings which really arent that much nicer than Tiguan. Bottom line? My wife saw it and the hunt was over. I think the Panther Gray put it over the top.

  • 2016 S - 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan

Ive been leading a 2016 Tiguan S for about a month and so far I am very happy with it. The stock stereo is great, it rides and drives like a Golf, the interior is well thought out and feels much higher quality than its price would imply. Not sure if VW rates their engines at the wheels but every FWD model Ive seen dyno results on matches VWs power output claim, so in reality the engine is likely putting out 230+hp and 240+lb-ft, and it feels like it. Im coming from a modified, 400hp Taurus SHO so I was expecting a huge let down. Im quite happy with the getup and go this car has. Im also averaging 20.5 mpg in the city (actual city) and 28 on the highway with cruise at 75. Now for my complaints: no satellite radio on the base model. Seriously? Almost everyone else has that. As a satellite radio subscriber this let me down, but not enough to outshine the merits of the rest of the car Trunk is small. Very small. Like cant fit my collie mix comfortably in the back with the rear seats fully reclined. Fortunately this can be overcome by sliding or angling the seats forward. All things considered I think this is the most underrated small SUV on the market

  • Highly Recommended for travel in snow/icy roads! - 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan

I have had this car for about a month now and could not be happier. I had been searching for reviews on the Tiguan in the snow and failed to find any and I can now say from an owner of one that I highly recommend this vehicle for those specific conditions. I live on top of a mountain located at a ski resort so traveling on the access road had always been difficult with my FWD Jetta. The switch to the Tiguan has been exceptional, even with keeping the all seasons that it came with. It has had NO hesitation in these conditions at all, especially the icy driveway. Safety definitely gets an A+. I was rear ended the first day I had the vehicle with my dog in the back. I was left with very minimal damage from the crash, which was extremely impressive. There is plenty of space in the trunk for a medium sized dog(mine is about 65lbs). Not sure large dogs will be a great fit. I am also very pleased with the interior being leather for all base models.

  • Quality Over Quantity - 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan

Smaller dimensions and my driving experience put the Tiguan in a class of its own. I enjoyed test driving the CX-5 and CR-V and while the Tiguan was not necessarily more athletic, the driving experience and interior felt a class above. This generation of the Tiguan is Volkswagen before the cost-cutting - not a volume seller, but it fills a niche for those wanting a premium feel without the Audi markup, much like the Jetta used to be stepping stone to the A4 or 3-series. Cargo space is comparable to a hatch, smaller than other compact CUVs, but just as versatile as both. As a side-note, I would pick the Jetta over both if VW would just improve the interior quality. The Golf is a great car and is the smart choice for fuel efficiency, but the looks never grew on me so the Tiguan was a good alternative. Contrary to most reviews, the interior was actually larger and more airy than I expected. With both the front and back seats adjusted all the way back, there was plenty of legroom but it comes at the expense of less cargo space in the rear. Fuel economy is not a strong point, especially since I do mostly city driving, but the performance in my eyes is worth the trade off. Once the turbo kicks in its hard not to smile and it feels very stable at high speeds or during bad weather. The steering is a little light at lower speeds but has great feel at higher speeds. The stereo on the SE (something often overlooked in reviews but important to me) is as good, or better, than top of the line systems in other brands. In my opinion, the upgraded Fender system is unnecessary. The good aside, I have to agree the driving position takes getting used to. The view is commanding, but the steering wheel and dash feel too high, and the armrests too low (I am 60). I personally like the firm seats. I would not, and did not pay MSRP for the Tiguan SE, especially since an all-new version will be available later this year. Reliability is unknown for me at this point, but in over 100k miles with my last Jetta 2.5 I had to do nothing but replace a battery. Hoping for the same experience here.
