Bug delite - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By michael99 - April 16 - 10:00 amThis car is so cute. i wanted to sleep in it the first week we got it. Early on week took a 1,000 mile road trip. It was wonderful. I was surprised how little road noise there was. The car is now over three years old. It works perfectly. I have moved to a hilly area and would prefer a little more tourque in the higher gears. The body has held up well. The interior has done well but then I had the seats covered from the beginning. Overall, it is a fun car. It still competes well with the new models. I will probably keep it another 4 years (50,000) miles before buying another VW. PS This is our 4th VW.

Trade it in quickly - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By Cathy - April 14 - 10:00 amVery cute car and fun to drive, but extremely unreliable. If you dont live close to a volkswagen dealership dont even think of buying one. Been on tow truck almost as much as driven in the 15 months we owned it. Constant problems starting. Shudders when it starts and was told by dearlership this was normal. When it shuddered for them, they could not figure out what was wrong and wanted to replace many parts to try to fix it. Car was bought for 19 year old daughter. She loved it when it ran, but it was dead more than running. Just replaced shifter linkage because linkage is made out of plastic parts.

Nice Dress, Shame about the Bod - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By MTLA - April 3 - 2:00 amThink hard before falling for the Beetles very real charm. Replacement brakes at 35K, failed starter motor at 45K, broken hood realease, failed glove box hinge, sheared off mirror adjuster, 3 new O2 sensors, 3 mass airflow sensors later were ready to say bye bye. Add to that a customer service dept which manages to sound concerned and attentive while never actually giving the immpression that theyll ever do anything.

Little Things Get Expensive - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By heartstrings - March 28 - 11:13 amThe 2000 Beetle is faster than you might think. It is excellent in busy traffic. The Visibility out of the windows is also excellent. This is the car I prefer to drive in large cities. The downside is its little plastic parts break and fixing it is expensive. Both of the window motors have broken, the gas cap release cable broke, the gas cap release button broke, etc. If you want a car that is fun to look at and drive this is a great choice. However, be prepared to fix little stupid plastic parts.

I hate Volkswagen! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By Teresa Mota - March 10 - 8:30 pmThis car is my nightmare. I hate it so much. I have it since January and I already spent $3,000 fixing it! Im so tired of all that happened with it. And Im broke obviously. Do never ever ever buy a Volkswagen whatever model it is that has more than 4/5 years. Im from Portugal, and there I had a Renault twingo, you probably dont know what it is, but its way cheaper and way better than this thing! And my car was from 1994! Shame on you Volkswagen!

Not worth the wait. - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By Bughata - February 17 - 10:00 amThis vehicle has given me unbeliable electrical problems. The the whole instrument cluster is unoperational, as well as the console light is out. Our transmission slips when trying to downshift. This is a vehicle with only 50,000 miles it should not be this bad at this point, but it is. Our warranty is up and now is up to us to reapair the unreliability of such a neglecting company. Consumer beware

Very glad I bought it, so sorry that someone else totaled it. - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By mpls5 - January 26 - 4:48 amThis was my first new car, every other car I ever had, including a 1974 superbeetle convertible, started at over 100,000. I had some small problems the first 5 years. No problems the next 5. Drove pretty rough the last 2, but probably mostly my fault. :) I really wanted to get the car to 200,000-probably would have if a 21 year old hadnt sideswiped into me at 75 mph, sending me spinning across three lanes of interstate and into a cement barrier. Car dented on 3 sides on the outside, none on inside. Airbag didnt deploy and didnt need too, though I did get sore. Very safe car. Handled a lot of less than ideal conditions- well, including spending over 10 yrs in MN, only 1 yr of it garaged.

Buy one - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By vw man - January 16 - 1:43 amThis car is cool! The punch from the low-revving high torque engine is great down low, but when the turbo kicks in it has even more power. The power is great, the build quality is amazing, pictures dont do it justice. Everything is nicely made and nothing creaks or rattles, it is solid and tight to the road. It drives like a Porsche until you hit a bump at which point it turns into a Bentley and you dont feel it. This car oozes with engineering perfection. The amazing thing is on a 150 mile trip I got 43 mpg and thats not just highway. What a car - its balanced in every way. Buy this car!!

Too bad! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By savage1 - January 5 - 10:23 pmMajor repair problems. Tried 2 different VW dealers and an independent mechanic - no one can fix it right. Had head gasket replaced ($1200), water pump, and themostat (twice) - still overheating! No temp gauge - only a red light when its already too hot. Front license plate holder fell off. Everything about this car is expensive, so make sure you get an extended warranty! Dealer service is terrible - will keep car for a week for any repairs. Oil change took 3 hours.
