  • Do NOT buy this car!!! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
    By -

Buying this car was probably the biggest mistake Ive made. The day I drove it off the lot, nothing but problems. The check engine light was always on, the car had trouble starting EVERY morning, it ate TONS of oil, over a quart every 1,000 miles, the a\c made the entire car shake, and if you did use it, the vents would stink for several days afterward, door handles peeled, sunroof leaked, too much to list here so Ill stop here.

Just like a boat, the two happiest days are when you buy it and when you sell it. Worst car I ever owned…

  • Goodbye to Volkswagen! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

We are nearing the end of our 3 yr lease term on a 2000 Turbo New Beetle and I couldnt be happier! This is without question the most unreliable vehicle I have owned in the last 12 years (out of 8 vehicles). I have owned 2-Chryslers, 2-Jeeps, 2-BMWs, Pontiac and now this junker...what a mistake. Problems: too many O2 sensors to count; catalytic converter; dead car (only to start mysteriously within 1 hr); gas cap cable; emergency brake cable; coolant loss (where did THIS go?); etc, etc. 2-yrs and 24K miles on the warranty...should have been a message at time of purchase: VW KNEW THIS ONE WAS A STINKER! Buy American!

  • Fun to Drive, but Unreliable - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
    By -

Owning a New Beetle is a love-hate relationship. You love how it drives but hate how it keeps letting you down. Ive had endless problems with this car from the start. The transmission started leaking the first week and had to be replaced. Weve had endless brake problems due to a vacuum leak. It took Capistrano VW 4 times to diagnose it the first time it happened. Brakes have never worked well. The battery has been replaced twice. The interior is falling apart, door handles peeling, passenger sun visor wont stay up, side mirror knob broke off. Were going to replace it with something more reliable. Its a bad sign when the dealership knows you by sight.

  • Pain in the back - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
    By -

I have had more trouble with this car than I care to admit. I got more frustrated because I like the way the car drives but I have had to replace so many parts in this car from an oxygen sensor 3 times to the turbo engine at 40,000. That is ridiculous! The dealerships want to rake the consumer over the coals in price of repair!

  • BAD CAR! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

Do not buy a VW. I cannot wait to get rid of this lemon. I bought this brand new back in 2000 and have had nothing but problems. Although they are not too major, they are annoying and cause a lot of anxiety. About once or twice a year my car decides not to start AT ALL and leaves me stranded. It will be running like a beauty one day and completely dead the next. Electrical problems galore, peeling door handles, plastic parts break, etc., etc., etc. Fortunately my father is a mechanic otherwise I would be seriously in debt up to my eyeballs. I actually feel guilty trading this lemon in!! I am getting a Honda or Toyota next time. This thing has been recalled more times than I can count!

  • CRASHED! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

SO my parents bought the bug for my older sister then it was handled down to me..i hated it at first because i felt like i was driving in a BUBBLE and it was not air resistance.(everytime driving on the highway i felt like i was going to be blown away with the wind)..ANYWHO i came to love the bug cuz it started to become fun until one day i lost control on the highway and crash!!!! (accident not my fault) ohh and did i mention SO MANY DAM PROBLEMSSS!!!! ughhhh so yah i dontthink ill buy another beetle again..and coming from a future car designer this is bad..design is good..reliability...not so good

  • Problem car - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
    By -

I bought this car new, and from 5000 miles on have had nothing but problems. Its been in the shop about 6 times for problems, not general auto service. Ive had electrical problems galore with this car, to the point where they have replaced 4 sensors, and now finally the entire electrical cluster. The A/C broke. The power windows, and ABS system have malfunctioned. P.S. I only have 30,000 on the car.
