  • Nice to drive but High maintenance - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
    By -

This car is great to drive but has had many things break. Many problems with the emissions system and the mass air flow sensors. Also problems with the windows not working right and going off track. This been extremely frustrating and inconvenient, but it has never left me stranded.

Heres what I went through in the ten months that I owned my bug before trading it in: 2 new alternators ($400 each), 4 new tires ($450 for all), getting stranded b/c the battery was dead all the time, new front brakes ($300), and then, the mother of all, in one weekend- oil change that led to $800 repair for hose that kept engine cool, $900 for new timing belt in the engine, and the guy also told me it would need a new front axle. I said forget it, so I traded it in the next day for a 2006 Hyundai sonata which drives like a Lexus!

  • Lots of problems - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

Original wiper blades made screeching sound. Told they were aftermarket. They came with car. Out of stock. They wouldnt send to me. I replaced on my own. Battery died within 30 days. Road service never showed up. Gas tank filler lid wouldnt open. Inition was faulty. Several problems with indicater lights. Most recent "engine malfunction" Dealer hasnt even looked at.Car at dealer for 5 days. Floor mats useless. Poor design on tabs that hold in place. Call to owner of dealership refused eventhough they were on premises. Every time oil is check it is down 2 quarts. Told this is "normal" Enough said.

  • Disappointed VWer - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

Ive had so many problems …1. Rear hatch doesnt close (had it in 6 x & replaced twice- still not right), 2. Gas flap servo broken & replaced, 3. instrument cluster replaced, 4. vehicle towed 2x due to 2 faulty switches (separate incidents), 5. air conditioner blower/compressor vibrated so loud that the dash shook (blower was replaced 6 mo. ago; just started roaring again), 6. Inside door cover plastic is peeling, 7. New brake pads installed- the rears badly worn at 48k miles, but the fronts like new--??, 8. engine light comes on frequently, 9. front air bag needed to be replaced (after 2 yr warranty ended) though the air bag had never been inflated, …

  • Sad Ending - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

I purchased my bug as a gift to myself I have always wanted one since sitting in my uncles old beetle as a kid and finally got it. Unfortunately I have had many problems mostly small but they add up, my biggest problem and suggestion would be to make sure prior to purchase you have a qualified mechanic that is knowledgeable with vw that you trust. I have found this to be important with mine and unfortunately there is only one vw dealer in the area (crooks $500 oil change, because they demolished to oil pan, and later denied fault) As my car has aged though the check engine light has become a glowing friend, that mysteriously can not be fixed! This has been going on for 4 mo and $1,000, now trading

  • Cute, but.... - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
    By -

I have had my new Beetle for almost three years now. As cute as it is (and it is!), I have had many minor frustrations for such a new/low mileage car. Such as: gas cap release lever broke, passenger side window broke (in down position, of course), window switch came right off in my hand. As someone who only owned Japanese cars, my first and only VW has been very disappointing. I would not buy another VW made in Mexico.

  • So Shoddy Yet So Cute - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
    By -

Ive had my 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle for seven years now. Ive had to replace one too many things...a transmission failure at 48,000 miles, the engine literally fell out on the freeway due to faulty motor mounts, I have replaced 2 CV boots, window buttons, light bulbs behind the dash at 20,000 miles, air conditioning, MAF sensor, amongst many other things not to mention cruise control that doesnt work and Ive even tried passing a vehicle once on the highway and my car didnt respond with speed... instead started slowing down by 30 mph! VW used cheap interior materials throughout the car and a 2.0 engine that only pumps out 115 horsepower and sucks gas like its going out of style. Will VW ever get it right?!?!

  • VW New Beetle Always in the Repair Shop! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
    By -

We bought a new 2000 VW GLS 1.8T since my wife had owned an original Beetle for over 15 years. We were hoping the second time around would be as good or better than the first Beetle she had owned. The New Beetle we bought was constantly in the shop for chronic and annoying electrical problems. The entire front dash wiring went out just after the warranty expired. We got tired of spending repair money on this New Beetle and the fact that it was constantly in the repair shop for electrical problems. We went out and bought a new 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid which we love for the gas mileage and which has never had any repairs other than routine maintenance. We will never buy a VW product again!

  • 2000 VW Beetle - aka Crap Mobile - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
    By -

This is the most disappointing car Ive owned. The interior is falling apart - plastic pieces break, the arm rests are peeling off the door. Several recalls. HORRIBLE service from the VW service shop - LIES, LIES, LIES. A few minor issues with mechanical, but majority is interior problems. I do not recommend buying in the VW family!! If you do - GOOD LUCK!

  • What a piece of Junk !!! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
    By -

I cant wait to get rid of this piece of %#$@*!!. I got a 39 month lease, that is up in 3 months. I am turning the car in early, next week before something else falls off.I have been stranded 4 time now due to the "clutch safety switch" whick would burn out and not let me start the car. The gas cap door cable has broken twice, the last time I had to pry it open with a screwdriver to put gas in. The buttons for the power windows have all broken, one of them twice. Since it is a Diesel, its almost impossible to start in cool FLORIDA weather. The list goes on and on, but Im sure you get the picture. Im YELLING at you to stay away from this piece of trash.
