Nice Dress, Shame about the Bod - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By MTLA - April 3 - 2:00 amThink hard before falling for the Beetles very real charm. Replacement brakes at 35K, failed starter motor at 45K, broken hood realease, failed glove box hinge, sheared off mirror adjuster, 3 new O2 sensors, 3 mass airflow sensors later were ready to say bye bye. Add to that a customer service dept which manages to sound concerned and attentive while never actually giving the immpression that theyll ever do anything.

Not worth the wait. - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By Bughata - February 17 - 10:00 amThis vehicle has given me unbeliable electrical problems. The the whole instrument cluster is unoperational, as well as the console light is out. Our transmission slips when trying to downshift. This is a vehicle with only 50,000 miles it should not be this bad at this point, but it is. Our warranty is up and now is up to us to reapair the unreliability of such a neglecting company. Consumer beware

Too bad! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By savage1 - January 5 - 10:23 pmMajor repair problems. Tried 2 different VW dealers and an independent mechanic - no one can fix it right. Had head gasket replaced ($1200), water pump, and themostat (twice) - still overheating! No temp gauge - only a red light when its already too hot. Front license plate holder fell off. Everything about this car is expensive, so make sure you get an extended warranty! Dealer service is terrible - will keep car for a week for any repairs. Oil change took 3 hours.

Love / Hate My Bug - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By lovehatemybug - November 5 - 4:26 amIve babied Volkswagen Beetle. I have no kids and have had no accidents and yet I am so disappointed with the lousy platic lack of craftsmanship in the interior. The window switches needed to be replaced, I needed new clips for the moonroof contols, and there is peeling rubber on the door handles. UGH!

Too many problems - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By Christina - September 14 - 9:13 pmMy Beetle has had endless electrical problems. The chrome finish on the steering wheel began rubbing off after 18 months of ownership. The engine cover falls off once or twice a year, which I hear happens a lot to new beetles. A cute car, but ridiculous to maintain. I didnt start having problems until it was about 4 years old. When I bought it, I sure expected it to last me more than 75,000 miles.

Worst Car Ever!! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By jwalker - June 9 - 11:03 pmThis car has had issues from the day I purchased it brand new. Pieces fall off. 1st week, bottom of dash fell to the floor. Door handle flew off on freeway- VW fixed 3x, now door handle sticks. Check engine light ALWAYS on. VW says light covers numerous items. So numerous, in fact, that if you take the car in to fix an "extended warranty", they require you to fix all other supposed "problems" before theyll fix item under warranty so they can get $. Lights (interior/outer) go out frequently. Stuck in park twice. Starter fixed twice. Burns oil like mad. Sounds like a lawn mower. Catalytic Converter issues. VW fixes - problem happens again. Spend more time on tow truck/in service than on road

2000 Beetle Review - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By Sridhar - January 9 - 10:00 amI bought the beetle cause it was my childhood dream to own one. The car drives awesome, the way it handles curves and braking etc., you never feel you are out of control. But sadly, I sold mine today not for comfort reasons but for reliability. The quality control is poor, the window trimming gives way, and the window switches are flaky, and after it crossed 50K miles, this year I had to go the dealer multiple times to get my engine check light fixed. When I talk to the service agents about the quality issues, they shrug their shoulders and say it is normal wear and tear. I own a camry with 80K miles and never had any problems. Reliability is one reason I would never buy VW or recommend it

VWs have problems - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By ihatemycar - November 30 - 2:00 amI have taken my car to the shop SOOOOO many times. It constantly has electrical problems and does not qualify for the lemon law. When i go into the shop there are always other angry VW drivers there regretting purchasing this car as I do. Dont get suckered in by its cuteness. These cars will break.

By dbb - November 30 - 2:00 amMechanically the worst car I ever owned. Nearly doubled the purchase price in repairs in 2 and a half years. Big bummer.

Cute but crappy - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle
By luvely21 - August 7 - 8:23 pmTook it in the next day after purchase to service the driver window because it didnt want to go up.The interior melts in the sun.Switches in the car fall off, like window switches. Cupholders detach therefore, i have a big orange juice stain on the passenger floor.Replaced both headlights at least once every year, very expensive, due to labor.VW made it difficult for customers to do themselves.Head of car hit pavement going over bumps.Forgot how many times I took it to get something fixed or replaced.AC filter needed to be cleaned within the 1st year and VW charged me for that. Hubcaps fell off in the 1st year of ownership.I hate this car.Even my Sentra from the 80s treated me better.
