  Good value, cool snug bug, but.. - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

  Nimble handling, chic style and VWs engineering has not let us down in the 2 years weve driven it. Warning! Replacement of body panels may be extremely delayed. We had to wait two months for a new rear right panel - from Japan - to replace our dented end. It kept our New Beetle in the shop all that time.

  I love the way this car looks but I have had so many problems with the car and the dealership that I cannot wait to sell it. Ever since I bought this car it has been nothing but trouble. In the end the car is cute and fun to drive but I will never buy a Volkswagen again because of the problems I have encountered.

  It had 6 electrical failures in 3 years. That is just too much! This car was less reliable than my 9 year old Chrysler! Luckily, I leased it so I did not have to sell it.

  I would love this car if I could keep it out of the shop-the price of repairs could have afforded me a much more expensive car! I am getting out VW this year as they have refused to help. Other people I know have much better response from their cars and their manufacturers!! I see other people have the same citrus experience!

  We bought the car brand new and had problems with the air bag lights right away. We have had the car into the dealer numerous times for the air bag light indicator. The check engine light comes on frequently and many sensors have been replaced. I would not buy another VW. (We learned how to replace headlamp bulb ourselves - its very expensive to have it done at the mechanic shop.)The car has a reputation with many mechanics!!

  Fun Car to drive 2.0 gas version feels sluggish ,however its styling won me over great looking car ,we plan to get ba convertable soon

  Poor Clutch Engineering - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

  If you had asked me last week, I would have said the Beetle is a great car. But Fri, my 2000 1.8t GLX with 26K miles broke down - burned clutch. Clutch should last (with normal driving) until 50K. I did research today and found that the 1.8t clutch is expected to only last 20K-30K. That is POOR ENGINEERING DESIGN. I can not afford to replace the clutch for $1600 (quote given) every 2 years. VWOA was no help. Ive had clutches last more than 80K in past (Ford).

  I bought my Beetle Baby used!! I loved it from day 1 that I first saw it. The color is bright green with a sunroof. After I had it for about 3 months I had problems getting it started, but that was due to the mechanic not knowing what he was doing. My next car is going to be a convertible Beetle Baby.

  My husband bought me a 2000 "Bug" in 2005 for Mothers Day, had 32,000 miles. The turbo power is awesome, it hugs/grips the road like you wouldnt believe, the 6 disc cd/speakers will blow you outta there, let the back seat down & youd be surprised what you can haul around, great mileage. After 5 years: new gear shift, timing belt, tires, inside roof. Mileage today: 69,888. The door panels have come loose & finding replacements is almost impossible. The engine light just came on yesterday, not looking forward to whatever this may cost. Husband says to trade it in. I dont wanna. The bottom line is: its a great running lil car. Gonna hold on to it as long as I can afford it.

  Sad to Say Its a LEMON! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

  This was my dream car, and it makes me sad to say that this car stinks! I got it for my high school graduation present and it was a dream for the first year I owned it. Then things started breaking left and right. Im not hard on my car but the plastic inside started peeling, things started falling off etc. Then the timing belt snapped leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere and the whole computer is being replaced...THE WHOLE COMPUTER! AHHHHH! This car is junk and it makes me so sad :(
