  • Dont Buy One - 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio
    By -

My boyfriend and I bought this car because i wanted it! I have had nothing but problems with it since the day I drove it off the lot! The night that I drove it home, the check engine light came on and I have had to take it back up there and pay for the problems even though I have only had it for not even three weeks! Getting this car was a big mistake.

  • Cutest Little Thing! - 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio

Before I bought my 2000 Cabrio 4 years ago, I looked up consumer reviews and was horrified. Fortunately, I ignored the postings and went ahead and bought one. omg! The best thing I could have done! Not only do you get great gas mileage, it fits everywhere. The check engine light came on twice in 4 years and both times all I did was open the hood and take a look. The first time, a thick rubber tube got old and had a whole in it. Cost me $2.00 & 15 minutes to change. This last time, a small rubber tube disconnected. I put it in its place, and 15 miles later, check engine light turned off. Im a female musician, not a mechanic and I figured it out! Use common sense, and you will be just fine!

  • Too expensive to keep it looking cute - 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio
    By -

The VW Cabrio is cute but frequently needs high cost bits and pieces replaced. The latest is over $260 for a plastic front grill which took several weeks to arrive at the dealership. The grill ws broken by the dealership because that was the only way for them to get to the broken hood latch. It is also very expensive to insure, even if its just state minimum requirements. This high maintenance for its appearance and high insurance costs eat up any savings from the good fuel economy.

  • VW does not stand by their products! - 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio

For the most part, this was a reliable little car and fun to drive. Like most VWs it was a rough ride but it was the roomiest, most relaible convertible around... Until the oil light come at 60K. I changed the oil but it was still on. I brought it in and the dealership said it was a comoputer problem and would cost at least $800 to fix. Otherwise, the car was fine. A week later, the engine seized. Neither the dealership nor VW accepted any responsibility. I will never buy a VW again. I really like the Beetle but I dont want to give my business to a "take-your-money- and-run" company!

  • Safest reasonably priced convertible - 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio
    By -

After evaluating several convertibles, we chose the VW Cabrio because of its standard safety features (ABS, Front/Side Airbags, Roll Bar, & Seatbelt pretensioners) and real rear seat. The 2 year free maintenance in the 2001 model has been a plus - warranty repairs (replacement of a window seal, peeling door handle, and dash button) have all been easily covered. Ever passenger loves the dash at night, and the quality of the car is apparent every time you drive. On a sunny day with the top down it is a real antidepressant!

  • Awesome! - 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio

This car is great! It gets great gas mileage, the CD player doesnt skip, the truck is pretty roomy for a small car, and easy to park/maneuver. I bought this car used, but it only had one owner who had all the routine maintenance preformed on time at a VW dealership, so Im loving it!! There are no mechanical problems and it has almost 70k miles on it now. Great car for the money!! (And its cute!)

  • Midlife crisis car - 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio

We bought two 2001 cabrios basically for convertible fun and best heat and traction in our 30 below winters. Cars are a lot of fun but tons of problems, would not recommend them even with extended warranty; only for summer fun, service from dealership is great but next cars will not be unreliable vws. Will miss the small size convert.

Ive loved my Volkswagen Cabrio. Its fun, easy to park, gets good gas mileage, and has a great sound system. It has all the things you look for in a sporty convertible.

  • Taking My Time To Get Where Im Going... - 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio
    By -

Sure the car has its drawbacks when it comes to speed...but who needs speed when you take your time to get where youre going? You cant help but feel relaxed in this car. Its fun to drive and flashy. I have red! What more do you need? Its too bad it got bad ratings from people that couldnt spring for the GLX model...power top, leather seats, rims...all the good stuff. Men look funny driving this car too...I just dont understand it. Its definately a chick only car!
