  • The Best car Ever!!! VWs Rule!!! - 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio
    By -

Ive always been a VW owner, Ive gone from the Golf to the cabrio, and I love it. Everyday I like it more and more. Ive never had problems with nothing peeling, no noise, just a smooth fun ride. For those that want power, and expect power from a Cabrio, take a suggestion from me, buy the GTI...thats power...The Cabrio is to chill in not to speed in. If you speed in a cabrio you take the fun out seeing everyone admire your car. its built for looks not for speed!!!!

  • What a Piece of Junk - 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio

My girlfriend owns this car and I cant tell you how many headaches it has given me. I will never buy another Volkswagen ever again. It has had problems with the window regulators, engine, exhaust system, and brakes. Im too upset to write anymore because Im going to be plunking down hundreds of dollars next week for the window regulators. I know so many people with Volkswagen horror stories.

  • Happy with my 01 VW Cabrio! - 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio

WAY fun car to drive and it turns many heads. I opted for manual 5-speed transmission, and it performs very well. The only things I have not liked is (a) some peeling on the door handles & dealer didnt fix to my satisfaction; and (b) with a smaller wheel base, the car rides rough on bumpy roads -- but thats life in a smaller vehicle. You can park this puppy anywhere though, and you are guzzling precious fuel like those SUV owners! I love my Cabrio. Its been a great new car experience. Looking forward to spring so I can DROP THAT TOP! :)

Good car that is fun to drive... so good features that are found in much more expensive convertables. VW service is very expensive.. get extended warranty just in case.

  • Dont believe the VW hype - 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio

This car is a money pit. Get ready to pay. The door handles, the mass airflow sensor (a ten year part), the catalytic converter, handle from the glove box, 3 mufflers, heated mirrors and the entire exhaust system went and had to be replaced. The windows go up and down at will, the "dealer disabled" security system locks itself at will like when I am driving, which sets off the alarm, the check engine light comes on constantly and my mechanic shudders when he seems me coming.

  • Disappointed with overall quality - 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio

We purchased our VW Cabrio GLS new because of its styling and our impression that VW makes quality vehicles. I must admit that the car was involved in a rear-ender in which the front end of the VW took a good smack, but fortunately, it was all cosmetic. My wife is the main driver (and I play the mechanic) and loved her car for the first two years. Then glued on interior parts started coming off. At about 45,000 we lost the speedo and tach gauge ($900 to replace, cant be fixed). The convertible top no longer works ($810 for the motor), the power steering leaks badly, the engine sprays oil all over, and this car has been babied, TLCd, and garaged. $26,000 and you still get a stamped steel valve cover.

It truly is a dog. And VW service is atrocious. What has gone wrong: catalytic converter; exhast hangers broke; drivers wind failed THREE TIMES; one tire (wheel) goes flat for no reason (even after replacing the tire). One of the more recent events was a violent shaking upon acceleration. The dealer replaced mass air flow sensor and some other electronic components. Got back on the road and he problem was still there. That is pure incompetence.

  • A few annoying things - 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio

This is a great car, with a few caveats: The steering wheel does not telescope, which is terrible if youre tall (which I am). The seat goes back so far I cant touch the pedals, but the steering wheel cant compensate, so its useless. (Incidentally, it says in the manual that the steering wheel telescopes, but it does not.) Also, the front cupholders are useless. NOTHING fits in them except for a can of soda. Otherwise, its a great car, but Im trading mine in soon. I cant get comfortable in it.

  • Just love it - 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio

There are only a few things that I would change. First the power Windows button is too small. The cup holder is set to deep into the consol, which makes it hard to put a med. Size drink in there with the ashtray being directly above it. And sometimes I bump the control for the window wipers when I put in the key into the ignition
