Purchased a 2001 Red/black Spyder in the summer of 2003. Its not for everyone, but if youre single with no kids, this is the car for you. It handles flawlessly, can be parked anywhere, and leaves every other car in the dust. I used to travel by plane, but now I refuse to fly anywhere within a 3-state radius. The only problem I have encountered is excessive tire wear - and Im not sure I can blame the car for that. Im embarrased to admit I smile everytime I see my car. Just to balance my glowing review: my brother is 62" and refuses to drive my car anywhere. He thinks it is terribly uncomfortable, totally impractical, and hates the non-stop attention it receives. To each his/her own.

This is my first sports car and While it comes stock with 138hp some quick aftermarket parts bump it to 155, Not to bad for a car that is 2100lbs. The cost:fun ratio is the best. People constantly ask "what kind of car is that" definate head turner. Great Resale because only 5000 are being made for the USA annually.

This car has to be one of the most "fun to drive" cars EVER!!! My Spyder gets heads turning everywhere I go. Its not uncommon for me to come out of a building to have people milling about my car, checking it out...wondering what it is (Ive debadged it, except for the "Spyder" logo. :) Most common guess: Porsche.

  • I like it. - 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder

I bought this car used with 90k miles on it, and havent had anything beyond normal wear and tear problems. I was only 17 when I got it and now am, partially because of this car, in love with sports cars. The handling is amazing, and Im not sure there could be a more fun car to drive for a brand-new price of $25,000. In my opinion the same year miata cannot touch this car in looks, and the stats show that goes for the preformance as well. I would recommend this car for any young sports-car-lover with a limited budget such as myself, or anyone who has ~15k to throw into a fun used car.

I just love getting drive this little car, it is so Fun! Almost go cart like, good in turns, smooth on the road. Its a little tough to get out of, being a 6 footer, But worth the drive. Great on the gas mileage for a Summer 3rd car that is economical & trendy also rare its a keeper

  • wonderful , exciting but dangerous - 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder

what a great car. the experinece from driving everday is not describable. but one major problem. this car should not have been allowed into production with the blind spot created by the roof on the passengers side. this car is in serious need of roll bars, and side air bags from the door. i suggest the potential buyer to buy one in yellow, so you can be seen by other traffic. safety is one major concern, and key safety features need to be included. buy a used one, because i got mine for $200 over invoice. they have a real hard time selling these cars. NO matter how they try to tell you otherwise.
