Overview & Reviews
Toyota has left the Echo untouched for 2002.
- Good gas mileage, speedy acceleration, roomy and functional interior, likely to be reliable.
- Cartoonish styling, annoying gauge placement, tilt-a-whirl handling, deceptively low base pricing.

Best car for first time driver - 2002 Toyota Echo
By Nuno - October 3 - 8:13 amI bought this car for my wife for her to learn how to drive, not only was she comfortable, it was fun to drive. We even took it from NY to North Carolina and Virginia Beach. We made a great trip, Never had any problem with it. and Gas consumption, on that trip was over 36 mpg and in city is around 32-35. Very easy to park, and to find park for. This car was a great experience for us.

45 mpg gold mine - 2002 Toyota Echo
By Carla J. - September 21 - 10:30 amI purchased this car because I was traveling 136 miles daily to and from work. I dont know how Toyota made a car that is so peppy (it made me feel 10 years younger just driving it) yet so easy on gas (45mpg). Its a small car but it rides great. The trunk room is unbelievable and if you need more room the back seats fold down. I love the simplicity (fewer things to go wrong with it). Ive added flames and white letter tires to spruce up the looks of it. I call it the little car nobody wanted because it had been on the car lot for several months and nobody wanted it because it had a manual transmission and the way it looked. Their loss, my gain!

Gone but not forgotten - 2002 Toyota Echo
By pprodshd - August 31 - 9:26 amThis is an epitaph as our "toy car" was recently totaled while parked on the street. At 93K miles, we had done oil changes and a $150 brake job. We enjoyed 2+ years with no payment or service needs. Was a great city car and always an adventure going 70 mph with a cross wind. It had 100% more charisma than any other sub compact from then or now. She will be missed. Probably moving into a civic. BORING

MY COMFORTABLE ECHO - 2002 Toyota Echo
By KJD - July 22 - 2:00 amTHE ECHO IS THE MOST COMFORTABLE CAR I HAVE SAT IN. THE "HIGH UP" SEATS MAKE IT EASY TO GET IN AND OUT. NOW WHEN I RIDE IN MY FRIENDS CARS, I FEEL LIKE I AM SITTING ON THE GROUND.

I beg to differ with you on this one - 2002 Toyota Echo
By Hank J - June 26 - 9:26 amI love the car and most people who ride in it are plesently surprised at the roominess, comfort and gas mileage. Until we can get some of the more stylish small cars from Europe, I will continue to enjoy my Echo. When its paid off, I will keep it for just commuting to work and get something else for show.

I Love my Echo at the Gas Pumps - 2002 Toyota Echo
By Dawn - June 23 - 12:13 pmI love my ECHO. I get close to 50 mpg. With the prices of gas today, it only takes $20.00 to fill her up. Its a fun car to drive and is very reliable. I am sad that Toyota is not making Echos any longer for the US. I actually got a letter from the Dealer wanting to buy this car back. I hope to have this car for many years.

GREAT CAR - 2002 Toyota Echo
By ldk - May 29 - 10:00 amI love this car! It drives smoothly, and has lots of interior space/storage for a small car. Visibility is great, I like being up high. Im glad it came stripped, because I can add the stereo and alarm I want without paying dealership prices for low quality equipment!

Nice Little Car - 2002 Toyota Echo
By CharlieA - May 17 - 2:00 amA lovely little vehicle. I am 62" tall. I sit upright in the drivers seat, with plenty of room above the top of my hat. The only negative comfort feature is the foot rest for the left foot, sized for a midget. That can be uncomfortable, particularly for long drives. I waited three months for delivery of my Echo from Japan, in order to get an Antilock Braking System (ABS); a very worthwhile choice.
