This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota has left the Echo untouched for 2002.

Pros:
  • Good gas mileage, speedy acceleration, roomy and functional interior, likely to be reliable.
Cons:
  • Cartoonish styling, annoying gauge placement, tilt-a-whirl handling, deceptively low base pricing.

  • Who needs a Smartcar??! - 2002 Toyota Echo

When I drive my Echo, I forget that it is a 1.5 liter VVT-i and not a sports car. I was surprised when I test drove it, as I was expecting the response to compare to a Ford Tempo. The car has more interior room than my brothers 2008 Aveo, and my other brothers 2008 Focus! It is not the fastest car on the block, but it sure is fun to drive! I own the manual, so I wouldnt even want to ever drive an auto again!

I love this little Echo! I have owned many cars over the years--VWs, Hondas, Fords, small, big and hot cars too. I test drove Saturn, Nissan, Hundai & Civic before choosing the Echo. The seating height, visibility and interior design is ideal for me at 5ft, 2" tall, but my 5 10", 270 lb boyfriend drives it too. It is much more comfortable to get in and out of than the others. The bucket seats are the most comfortable and the gas mileage is great! I paid $11,400 for the car new(4-door) including air conditioning and power steering. Test drive before you rule it out. Read Consumers Reports 2002 Auto Edition. They highly recommended it.

  • Great Little Car - 2002 Toyota Echo

Great car! I bought this car used from an individual. I have nearly 100,000 miles, and not a single problem. Comfy, roomy for a tiny package and great on gas!

  • Great around town, so-so on the road - 2002 Toyota Echo

Economical car, 30mpg avg, easily fits in tight parking spaces, pretty good around town. The ride is a little bumpy, and its noisy at highway speed. Acceleration is OK for on ramps but a little underpowered for climbing hills.

this is a fun little car to drive. My parents helped me purchise mine as a "going to college" car.

  • LOVE IT!! - 2002 Toyota Echo

Ive always liked the Echo and my Taurus (great car) was finally fixing to die. Managed to get a white, 2-door, 5- speed, and I love it. Faster to 60 than my V6 Taurus, roomy as its tall if short, and great economy. Everything about it is well designed and quality made. Im a BIG guy and it fits me well. Also excellent view of the road. TONS of storage. They really thought this one out.

Purchased for my wife and now we fight over who will drive. I always drove big cars but this drives like a big car and the reliability and gas mileage and looks have won me over. You get more than you pay for in this car.

  • MPG 41-47 (5 tests) - 2002 Toyota Echo

My manual 2002 4dr Echo has 175K now. I did 5 tests on mpg w/different routes and cargo load (from just one driver to 1 driver + 8 scuba tanks and a scooter). The roads are country, FL. Burned some 3/4 of a tank, read receipts for exact difference and read the odometer. None of the tests indicated lower than 40 mpg and the highest Ive ever recorded was 47. For 175K replaced parts were: burned cabin fan resistor, 3 sets of tires (worn), cracked windshield (gravel), dozen w-shield wipes, oil change. Best of all - I paid it off 2 yrs ago. None of the new cars come close to the performance and "True Cost 2 Own", not even Yaris nor Honda Fit.

  • Got Game - 2002 Toyota Echo
    By -

No doubt about the Echo, its GOT GAME !! The car has guts, its a lot of fun to drive in the city, easy on the pocket book, and comfortable for a 63 soccer coach. I strongly recommend this car its solid, safe, and sexy. Ok forget the sexy... but you wont regret the decision.

  • Cannot go wrong with Toyota! - 2002 Toyota Echo
    By -

Absolutely love my new Toyota Echo! Best fuel economy, of any car I have ever owned. Sleek, sporty exterior. Roomy interior, big trunk capacity. Unusually fiesty drive, for a small 4- cylinder. Beautiful paint, black sand pearl. Also own a Camry V6 LE 1996, and would recommend Toyota to everyone!
