Overview & Reviews
There are no changes for the Echo this year.
- Good gas mileage, speedy acceleration, roomy and functional interior, Toyota reliability.
- Cartoonish styling, annoying gauge placement, shaky handling, deceptively low base pricing.

ECHO - 2005 Toyota Echo
By Im sold - February 6 - 4:10 amI rented a car in April got one of these by chance. 30 miles later I was completely sold and bought one 2 weeks later. Its a BLAST to drive, the looks really grow on you, its as roomy inside as a Corolla, and the gas mileage I got with an automatic blew me away, over 40 mpg freeway. I absolutely LOVE this car. There isnt another car in this class that can come NEAR to this car.

By Kimberly - November 22 - 8:03 pmI love my Echo. In todays times of rising gas prices, its fabulous gas mileage and small gas tank feel like a relief.

Underrated Car - 2005 Toyota Echo
By Ron - March 28 - 8:00 amIm 66" and the Echo is the only economy car with enough headroom for me. Its surprisingly quick and Ive averaged about 40 mpg overall...38 in town and 43 hiway...the combination of mileage, space, and quick accelation in a modestly priced car is unbeatable to date...once you get accustomed to the center dash...its a better design from a safety point of view.

I love my ECHO - 2005 Toyota Echo
By sue - February 18 - 9:26 amI bought my ECHO in 2002. It is very reliable. It has not needed ANY repairs other than normal maintence. It gets GREAT gas mileage. I can drive my car to work for 2 weeks on one tank of gas!

Toyota Echo - 2005 Toyota Echo
By Judy - November 19 - 6:03 amHandles beautifully - havent seen the "wobbleness" noted by Edmunds. Gas mileage great - last fill up was 39.8 mpg (I drive conservatively). The 2001 model sold me on getting the 2005, and the 2005 is great!

Actually a 4-door HATCHBACK-Canada - 2005 Toyota Echo
By Lori - November 14 - 5:50 pmIve never loved my car before this--I always bought for practicality and was very happy with the much-recommended, long-lived Tercels since 1984. The ECHO HATCHBACK is cute, fun, different, economical, and comfortable. Maybe not so different anymore--theyre popping up everywhere! I get 46MPG (the larger Canadian gallons)in real life driving, which has only a few 5 minute stretches of 80km/h (50mph)--no real highway driving. Toyota makes terrific, reliable cars, and now they have a CUTE one too!

Reliablity is #1 - 2005 Toyota Echo
By gkkano - September 5 - 4:40 amNo problems, fuel economy is as close to a hybrid as possible, needs power window and tachometer options like the Japanese models [its pictured in the owners manual], if youre just looking for a runabout car that is easy to park in small places, sips fuel, wont attract to much attention, not on anyones major stolen cars lists--this is the car. Reliability is the key, if it doesnt start and go--who cares what it looks like.

By Helen Crowe - July 17 - 3:00 pmGreat car with wonderful visibility. We get 40 mpg and cant understand why you dont advertise it more. Other owners we meet love theirs too. Ours is a 2000 year model.

Hidden Value - 2005 Toyota Echo
By gkunz - June 1 - 12:46 pmHidden value. Purchased my Echo to travel to work and back. Mostly interstate miles. Could not be happier. Worth the $ my husband now wants another. After over 150000 miles with no major repairs. And still gets 40+ miles per gallon. A hidden treasure. Its sad the Echo was discontinued.

Echo 4 door 5 speed - 2005 Toyota Echo
By SRMark - January 17 - 6:33 pmI purchased this car for its gas mileage only. I thought it was funny looking but it would serve my needs. Then I drove it. What a blast. It shifts well, handles well (in spite of other reviews that said it had severe body roll), the room is amazing for such a small car. Im, 61" with a long torso and I have head room to spare. The seats could use some leg and back bolstering though. Now, Ive come to appreciate how it looks, especially as it sits in a gas station.
