  • Good Buy - 2000 Toyota Echo

Bought mine brand new from the dealer, it hasnt been back to the dealer since. (Except for the small fact that nobody in my area sells the air filter yet) I have never gotten worse than 44 miles per gallon and my highest was 50. Only extras I got were cruise control and a CD player. I drive over 35,000 miles a year, so I just wanted a car that would last and got good gas mileage.

Bought a used 2000 Echo with 33,000 miles on it. Best car Ive ever owned, besides my 1990 Prizm. My Echo is zippy, peppy, handles like a dream and looks cute and sporty. Huge trunk, plenty of interio space, comfortable seats. I like the speedometer/instrument panel positioned in the middle of the dashboard, as opposed to being right in front of the steering wheel. Very easy to get used to! Great gas mileage: 35-city and 42 on highway. (I laugh at SUV owners when I go to the gas station). Great heater, AC, radio. My only complaint is that because the car is so light, it tends to get buffered around on a fairly windy day. But otherwise, I love my Echo.

This is a decent little car, it gets great gas mileage even after four years. I commute about 2hrs each way, 2/3 of my drive is in traffic, heavy traffic and I still get around 33- 34mpg. The other 1/3 of the time, I am going well over 80mph. This car does have a governer on it that kills the power around 115mph which is pretty fast for such a small car. The first 80K miles, I have been doing the tune-ups myself. Everything is very easy to do on this car, I think any girl could even do a full tune-up on it. The only thing I really dislike about the car is every 35k miles, I need new brakes.

  • Cant beat it - 2000 Toyota Echo

I bought this vehicle for a commuter. I love it - it sips gas, squeezes into tight parking spots, has great maneuverability. I had one minor problem, the trunk lock broke (wouldnt work with the key, just the interior release). It was fixed at no charge when I brought it in for regular service. NO other problems, only goes in for routine maintenance. Well, one problem - my wife wants to borrow it all the time. I like the interior space and headroom - Im 6 0", 250 lbs.

Happily driving the wheels off. Very reliable. Pros are the interior room (Im 62") which is the best in a high fuel economy car Ive ever known, excellent manueverablity and parking. An excellent city car. Cons are crosswind sensitivity (you MUST stay focused on the road on a windy day) and the stunning lack of Toyota aftermarket parts and repair manuals. Much of the car is engineered to make you bring it back to the dealer. I paid $42 for a fuel filter that was mounted in the fuel tank under the rear seat. Tercel (ECHO is a very upgraded Tercel) had a $5 fuel filter under the hood on a fender. OTOH it simply doesnt give any trouble.

The Car is great but this car makes you CAR SICK easy after a while. It does NOT have a clock inside!

  • 2000 Echo: over 180,000 miles and no problems - 2000 Toyota Echo
    By -

We bought our Echo in 2000. It has been the most reliable car weve ever owned, and the most economical to operate. Highway mileage is about 40 mpg, and we have had no major repairs at over 180,000 miles. My husband is 62" and is very comfortable in the drivers seat - he tried to sit in a Corolla at the time we bought the Echo, and he was terribly cramped, so we bought the Echo instead and have never, never regretted it. This car is a keeper! (Our Echo has automatic transmission.)

  • The BEST starter car there is!!!! - 2000 Toyota Echo
    By -

This was (and still is) my starter car, and the reliability was OUTSTANDING!!! I need something bigger and thats the ONLY reason Im trading this in, if i had more money, Id prefer to hold on to it as a "extra" car. Like the first reviewer said, its AMAZING the parking spots you can squish in too, great for shopping expeditions or a busy night out in the city.

  • 95% Perfect - 2000 Toyota Echo

Performance is exceptional given small engine. Lags a bit with AC on, what can I expect. Now have close to 45,000 on it. Couple of minor rattles, other than that, excellent vehicle. Rock solid and reliable, as with my 94 Toyota P/U (225,000 miles, less than $2,500 in repairs)

  • Best Vehicle Ive ever owned - 2000 Toyota Echo
    By -

Ive had no problems with this car at all. I replaced two sensors over 101,100 miles other than that the car is nearly flawless, comfortable even for tall people like myself. The dash board design is simple and easy to view. The stereo system is outstanding with six speakers. The gas mileage is phenomenal. Ive owned many cars and this is by far one of the cheapest, fun to drive, and above all else reliable. Low maintenance costs. I cant say enough about this car except that Id buy another one if they still made them.
