I bought this car with 194,000 miles on it. I was nervous because of the high mileage. I had the car checked out and the mechanic offered to buy the car from me! I knew I had a winner! I have taken many road trips and it is the car everyone wants to ride in when my friends and I go anywhere. I will be sad when it dies. Which I dont see happening anytime soon. I have had to have the air conditioning redone once and now have 214,000 miles on my baby. I get about 27 mpg (all city miles) and couldnt be happier with the power/fuel economy combo.

  • Best reliable coupe - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

When I first looked for a vehicle I knew Lexus and Toyota are known for the best relaiability. I noticed that the Solara was every bit as good as the Lexus but without the huge pricetag. My buddy has the ES 300 and when I got my Solara he said hey they feel and drive the same! Even interior cosmetics are identical. I paid less and got the same car 3.0 V6 with all the goodies including Moonroof and JBL sound which is awesome! I had a major tranny problem ironiclly but Toyota replaced it! Saved me thousands! They said they never changed a tranny before on a Solara to date, mine was the first at that dealership.

I also have a 96 Toyota 4Runner and when I wanted a coupe, I tested all the cars in the category. I admit I wanted a different make than a Toyota, but the Solara blew away the competition in terms of looks and reliability and it drives like a luxury car. With my 4Runner, I have had only one problem with it since 1996 and that is a rear taillight bulb burned out - thus the Toyota reputation for quality is no rumor! I feel safe and comfortable and confident in this dream of a coupe.

This is the best car I have ever owned in over 40 years of buying them. I like some of the other reviewers are sorry that Toyota has decided to discontinue this model. I would have bought another if this one ever quits on me. I like coupes and it really fills the bill for me. The 4 cylinder has been just fine. Good on gasoline and has been very dependable.

On Oct 2006, I raved about this car. (see comments). Just turned 100k, didnt have to change brakes (front) until 98k. Vacuum sensor for gas tank has show up as check engine light twice in last 6 mos. Have always had a slight clunk in right door - dealer never found the reason.

  • NICE RIDE - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

I have had great success with my 1999 Toyota Solara SLE. I change the oil every 3500 miles and I only deal with Toyota for servicing my vehicle. The car is a dream to drive and it looks sharp too! I have leather power seats, moon roof, side air bags, nice cd player and an excellent resale value on it. Very nice car

  • Sleeper Solara - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

The Solara has become a member of my family, the older ones only trading hands because the previous owner purchased a new one. It is definitely the favorite car of my family due to its reliability and performance. I now have a red 99 Solara that started out as my grandpas Pan-American highway vehicle. Now it is my college companion. She currently has 176K on the odometer and still lives up to the "Sleeper Solara" reputation. With 176K my Solara is not as sharp as it used to be, but that doesnt mean that the Germans are safe from her. Furthermore, Ive personally seen some of the goats from Detroit faint with fear.

  • The best car for the money! - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara

I purchased this Solara in 2002 and it had 75,000 miles on it. It now has 200,000 miles and has been Uber Reliable. I put one timing belt on it and a starter that I got off eBay for 60 bucks. This car has never failed me and is as smooth today with 200k as it was with 75k. I plan to drive it another 200k and I think it will make it just fine.
